The first time I went to Townsville was in 1988 and it was a bit of a dump like Rockhampton. But I visited again three years ago and the place has been completely transformed, with the beautiful Strand parkland along the beach, the museums, the expanding university. Brilliant. Well done Townsville. I am looking forward to retiring there. Nice video - Townsville is indeed very walkable. Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for this comment, it was so good to read. I know Townsville has had a bad rep in the past but it is now such a great city to walk around and the Strand is so good, any time of day. Townsville is in my top few Queensland cities to visit these days, and your retirement plans are the best!

I grew up in Townsville from birth and left when I was 20 to live in Brisbane. It's certainly alot more cosmopolitan looking since I lived there in 1990 but I can feel the energy of the place by watching this. I recognized a few of the old buildings and places I used to go and I see they put a road through the mall.

Interesting. I definitely wasn't walking around at 9.40am. I wonder if the Townsville Town Clock is accurate lol. It was 4pm when this video was shot, and pretty hot too.

@@Walk4KToday I've found that shadows fall along Flinder st. from Mad Cow to Rambutan therefore the Sun is on South-West-West. It shows time between 3 - 6 p.m. Town clock is wrong. 😊

Thanks for posting this. Stayed in Townsville for a week decades ago and didn't have enough of a good impression to want to go back again. But now looking at this, either I was wrong or it's been made into a great looking city and really makes me want revisit!

Thank you for watching and commenting! I first visited Townsville in 2016 and I love getting back to visit whenever I can. Not knowing what it was like previously I imagine the city has been improved a lot. And Rambutan in Flinders Street is a brilliant spot in the city. I also did a walk along The Strand which is a fantastic place to walk and soak up some brilliant views. Check it out too. Hope you get a chance to visit Townsville soon!

@@Walk4KToday I lived in the south of Qld (Brisbane, Gympie and Toowoomba) for 20 years or so, moved back to Sydney (born here) about 10 years ago but now want out BADLY. Been tossing up to go back to somewhere in Qld (if Palusczuk ever lets anyone in again) but never considered Townsville. Thanks to your video it's definitely on the list! I'll be sure to check The Strand walk you mention. Thanks again.

This was shot right before Christmas and a lot of shops were not open. Add to that shops which Covid have shut permanently, the streets were very quiet.

Townsville is dangerous to walk alone. Violent crime is rampant. Locals don't go wandering around.
