Do you know if there’s a second cat or O2 sensor downstream? Or is it just the one attached to the exhaust manifold? ‘07 Camry with a 2.4 liter

Should usually be an up stream and down stream sensor. As for a second cat, I believe there is only one

I don’t know why but the two 14mm under my Camry are rusted that cannot grab with any tool, I try heating them up but that also didn’t work. I can’t seem to be able to take them off, any recommendations?

It happens. Got a set of vice grips? If so, try grabbing the head of the bolt with that.. spray them with any penetrating oil first, let soak for a few then wipe clean so you can get a good bite on the head of the bolt. Worst case which this usually happens with exhaust bolts.. cut the head of the bolt off then once you get the cat out, the studs are much easier to turn with vice grips. Turn the studs counter clockwise then clock wise just a hair over and over with vice grips. Very miniscule turns. This breaks up all the seized rust and cleans the threads in the process. If you feel it seizing up while loosening, turn clockwise again and repeat. Wiggling occasionally helps also. This stud method works every time when I work on exhaust components. It's like watching paint dry but it saves you from drilling the broken studs out. Just go easy when turning the studs. Albeit, you'd have to buy two new bolts which you can usually just get from any auto store near for like 5 bucks so no big deal. You could match size, length, thread pattern with bolts you got lying around also to save time/money. Let me know how it works out for you!

Did the check engine code disappear after you replaced the catalytic converter? Also was the car able to passed smock check? Also after you replaced the catalytic converter do you still having the issue of oil consuming? Thanks
@Tripp77

The light did indeed go off. It's why we replaced it to pass emissions. Oil burning still resumes unfortunately. This model in particular has a recall for bad piston rings so the owner will be dumping oil in it for the rest of its days. I don't find a reason to dig that deep to install oversized piston rings to tell you the truth. Why kind of issue are you having exactly?

Hello i am having same issues oil consuming i put a qt every 1000 miles and check engine light came on code 0420 it says replace catalytic converter bank 1 already checked and is clogged i am located in CA i heard i do need the original catalyst converter to pass smoke check but i am not willing spending like 1500 dlls for the new one ? Do you think if i install a universal catalyst converter will it pass smock check? Also will it affect the performance on my car ? Will it use more gasoline? Thanks in advance

How long did the smoke last until it was one hundred percent not visible?
@Tripp77

Not long at all. Once it was full operational temp, it was gone. Just grease/oil from the install burning off.

I have the same oil burning problem with my camry and my cat isclogged...my fear is if I replace the cat, the excessive oil burning will clog the cat again....I don't want to bother with piston rings, it would cost more than the car is worth

If you guys have toyotas.. I would look into if they have warranty recalls. You may just get lucky and will rebuild/replace for free.... Unfortunately if not, there really is no quick fix to this. This cat replacement was causing misfires due to it being clogged after years of wear. Only true way to fix the oil burning is oversized piston rings unfortunately. Too much for what it's worth imo which is why we just keep dumping oil in as the engine burns it off. If you're having misfires, check the commons first.. i.e. coil packs, spark plugs, air intake leaks somewhere. Thats usually the culprit.

Ebay for about 100 bucks. Although I would be careful with ebay atm... they have a pending lawsuit that deals with auto parts... and i recently bought spark plugs over summer myself and they melted bad within two months from there. Been going back to brick and mortar stores since.
