This is not unloved at all. The 6th Gen Celica is one of the most RECOGNIZABLE Celicas there are especially thanks to the ST205 even though we never got them. I loved the Celica....always wanted one as a teen, it's the perfect first car in my opinion. It's quick enough to have some fun but not get you in trouble, looks sporty but not boy racer and its interior for the time was really nice plus it's a Toyota so reliable if you keep them closish to stock. Which here in Auz you are not allowed as a new driver to modify them....so I think it's a great first car. The next gen was a bit too gawdy for me with all the fake plastic shit all over it. For me this Celica and the 87 update were the best looking. Unfortunately here in Australia the Celica was seen similar to the Miata as a hair dresser or make up artist car. I knew a few mates who had the gt4 though and that thing was a weapon. They were not easy to modify so a lot of us stayed away from them. The people that did though they were really fun cars with a bit more power. I may buy one when I get some space just to have owned it like I always wanted.

Beams came with a 20 value head instead of the normal 16 in most usual 4 bangers. It was basically a homage to the not only the group A race engines, but also the 4age silver and black top - thus the beams black top name. I believe the black top beams made 200-210hp.
@K0Y0I_sis
2 жыл бұрын
Nope. As much as i wish the redtop came with 20v from factory, It's just not the case, what 4th gen 3S-GE had that set these engine apart from the blacktop 4A-ge thou is the debut of MMC(metal matrix composite)linings onto the 4th gen blocks, it's lighter than the iron block from the 3S-GTE yet still being able to hold down decent amount of boost. Depend on region, some tuners prefer the redtop over the backtop dual VVTi variant beams for forced induction applications for the sake of simplicity, Unless you're aiming for big power figure and the top end delivery the redtop's single intake side VVTi is actually more responsive and easier to tune during the low to mid rev ranges and will do you more favor as a street engine. 3 years down the line you could see Yamaha fully integrating this technology onto it's 2ZZ-GE development phase.

Down here in latam they are very, very popular engines to swap, they even race celicas as FWD quite a bit They put the beams on everything from tercels to nissan v16 (sunnys), starlets when they cant afford the turbo swap... I have even seen them on a few rx8 after they blew the rotary But yeah, that engine lives in the shadow of the gt4 massively, even the fwd celicas running it are always in the shadow of the gt4

I had a 1979 celica it was great. The previous owner shoddy manual swapped it. I couldn't get it to pass California smog and shortly after the engine died. I parked it for a month to save up money to fix it, but it got stolen 😕 ... 6 months later (assuming it was gone forever) the police found it half a mile away down the hill from my apartment! The thieves couldn't start it because it was dead so they ditched it. I recovered it and ended up selling it for 300 bucks and a pair of dr dre beat headphones to a cool guy who I'm still friends with on Instagram. that was in 2012. Whenever I wore the headphones I remembered the Celica. I still have the beats, but they're broken and in a box of memories. The new owner got it running and I think he still has it. CELICAS ARE DOPE.

Definitely the best looking celica. I had a 97, I threw some 2000 gt-s rims on it, looked so much better than they did on 7th gen. The 98 and 99 in white or silver were the best looking imo. The 95’s were decent as well.

I had one of these, an American market '95 GT, black with the 2.2L I4. It handled so well. The Le Mans-style 5-speed shifter placement was sexy. This car was fun to drive and looked so good. The American market deserved a performance engine. This is why, IMO, the sixth generation Celica does not enjoy the nostalgia that other generations do.

Always loved that generation Celica. The Beams engine is actually pretty nice. The issue is that Toyota had its own internal competition of sorts. The Ae101 Corolla and Ae111 Levins had a variant of the 4AGe. They were more of an ITR, CTR and Nissan Primera/Lucino/Pulsar (sr16ve/20ve) fighter. The 6th gen will always be considered the Evo/Sti fighter.

so I'm a Honda guy but in our car group we had TWO GUYS WITH CELICA'S! ONE OF THEM WAS ONE OF THESE 96 GT'S LIKE IN THE VIDEO IN THE BEAUTIFUL TEAL COLOR LIKE THE EG CIVICS CAME IN!!! WITH THE 2.2 with full bolt ons was it really fun car and I think with this beam swap with Toyota's version of VTEC it would have been even better our other friend has the 2002 Celica GTS with the 2zz and the full TRD package on it most people don't like them I think it looks good with the carbon fiber hood roof and trunka lot of people think the 7th gen looks race it looks good if done right with the TRD package and he has intake headers exhaust as well chipped in tuned and it's pretty much the equivalent of a K20 I really love the 7th generation the early 2000s with the GTS package and motor for power wise and they look aggressive but I really really loved my buddies 96 GT6th generation and that beautiful teal color that was the same as the red one in this video nobody else had one of those around here and damn sure not in that color and with this little single can basically VTEC motor that the one in the video has that's pretty badass I couldn't imagine it with the Dual cam version again I'm a Honda guy but I really think these six generation and Seventh Generation celica's GT for the 6th gen and GTs for the 7th gen are pretty badass if I was ever going to own a Celica over my Hondas!!!!!

I've had my Celica Gt for years now and it's still a blast to drive. While yes I would rather have a BEAMS engine or the 3SGTE engine or even a GT4 All Trac. But the 5SFE is a closed deck and they can handle a good amount of boost. I just wish there was more aftermarket support for the 5SFE and just the Celica in general, but as always America gets the shaft on the awesome JDM cars of the 90s.
