Update: Just saw a Midnight Purple V-Spec R34, got to sit in it, and can say that it really is awesome. It smells good, and the smell is so strong that you can smell it from 2 meters away!

That driver is Keiichi Tsuchiya, the real DK, Drift King. In a street race, he once drifted all 170 odd corners, true story.

yeah terrain advantage, slow corners, set up, etc. For a lot of Slow speed corner you can`t fully utilize a fast car`s power.

I remember hearing that lovely engine note the first time I watched initial d. I did everything in my power to at least try and recreate that sound. Unfortunately with my dusty ass air I can't use ITBs so I'm stuck with a CAI. It's got the throaty growl but it's just not the same 😥

@@duckydammet2646 Should have used ITG or Pipercross filter like all the Weber carbed cars did in rally, you get a way larger intake and filtered area so more air will make it into the engine than with a single throttle body anyway, that's the point of ITB's and carbs. Open stacks is mostly a novelty idea, something you only do in clean air or during a race.

Jon Tendo it’s not a turbo because you can’t hear one on the inside of the car, and I’ve heard a turbo make noise and it’s a high pitched whine and there was not a single turbo sound coming from the engine.

Agreed. I have a 2005 Mustang GT that I use at the drag strip and a 1995 Nissan 240sx project car that I use at tracks. I also have a '98 Toyota Corolla that I use for gas mileage haha. But yes I agree, America focuses more on power and Japan focuses on handling but if you look at cars like the Camaro ZL1 and the Mustang Boss 302 (2012) you'll see more than just power on both. Also check out the Viper ACR, that beat European cars and Japanese cars on the Nurburgring.

in this case we are talking about touge, mountain pass. its not about the power anymore but the power to weight ratio of the car itself. just like what tsuchiya in the full version of this video said about balance. i recognise american cars have huge power but on the downhill, its a different story alrdy since breaking point is different. even in this vid, the underpowered 86 beat the BNR34 which is enough to show that on mountain passes, power doesnt much determine the outcome

86 is a car made for tight turns. it's light weight and balanced suspension gives it a better edge on roads with a lot of corners. the GTr has more understeer and is a heavier car which slows down it's rev if the engine isn't powerful enough.

it has brakes dont get me wrong but you dont need abs for braking in corners all you have to do is shift down when you enter and shift back up when you exit the footbraking technique he use is just to slowhis car down when he is entering a corner

Well, I kind of overshot the weight of the AE86, I forgot it weighs a lot less than 3,000 lb, but that skyline looked stock, Most stocks (depending on which model) weigh in at 3,200-3,600lb, which isn't as efficient as the AE86 which is hell of a light car

Actually he got the rep as drift king for throwing the rear end even in non drift events. He was even repeadiatly penalized for doing so.

grip vs drift shouldn't be a competition. It's best to use both depending on how sharp the turn is. Rally driving is probably the best example.

actually the r34 has a better power to weight ratio. he was riding the 86's ass in the first part of the video telling him to get out of the way. but once they hit those tight corners he couldn't keep up. what happened is the 86 is simply better at cornering than the r34 and tsuchiya carried more speed in the corners than the r34. the r34 simply never got a chance to use its power.

I have to say, between Gran Turismo and Forza, GT blows Forza right out of the water (my opinion). But I'll agree with fullymental307 when it comes to drifting. It definitely slows you down, but its hella fun :)
