Compared to other videos I've seen to help me flush my 07 Corolla, you were very detailed on the process, showing us exactly where to look and remove bolts, Alternator, thermostat which is very helpful if we need to replace them. Also thanks for giving me an idea where to look for the drain bolt on engine block, which I've never done, only flushed the whole system with distilled water over & over until Thermostat opens up & water comes out clear before refilling with fresh coolant. Look forward to more videos.

Its actually quite easy to open the block draining bolt from above, once you manage to locate it (behind the block, drivers side, a small mirror will help). No need to lift the car up at all. Also, after all this trouble, it makes sense to replace the thermostat as a preventive measure, just as you did with the drive belt. It wont last forever and its cheap. Very clear and informative video, you do it better than Haynes, thank you!

good videos by one question......Because you put green antifreeze in it, the manual says it should be organic red antifreeze, not green.?/

Hey brother thank you for the video. Wanted to ask if it’s absolutely necessary to flush the system with additional chems/clean oils or can you just drain and add the coolant?.
@susannero6401
Жыл бұрын
Well, I didn't -- I just drained, flushed, and replaced with fresh coolant. So not absolutely necessary to flush with additional chemicals. However, if the car is old and the coolant has never been replaced, or if the history of the car is unknown to you, maybe additional cleansers would be advised. Anyway, thanks for watching.

Hello. May I ask total time it took. I am a novice. My car is 17 years old, runs good, however the last radiator flush was done almost 10 yrs ago (only driven abut 20k miles during that time). Would you recommend draining the heater core too? Perhaps start at the highest part on the car first (coolant reservoir, then the heater core, then the radiator? I don't think I want to tackle the thermostat...engine block.).!

It's been awhile, but maybe 3 hours (?). Taking video added some time, and there's a learning curve b/c it was the first time. If I did it again it would probably take 1-2 hours. But i'm the slowest mechanic in the world. A pro could do it in a half hour. ... Definitely the heater core -- just turn the heater to max in the car. Thanks for watching!

You can use standard (green) coolant as well for older toyota models. mechanics do it often

How much coolant did you put in? i think its okay to put 4.5 ml right?
@susannero6401
Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don;t remember. A standard gallon/4 liter (?) jug of antifreeze will be enough. Definitely more than 4.5 ml :) (4.5 l sounds about right; the Haynes manual doesn't say, but the owners manual probably does.

Only if its broken- check your thermometer gauge and watch to see how accurate it is/its patterns while driving or cooling down

Another video said it's not worth draining the block because it's just a matter of a few ounces that comes out.

Why don’t you just use the flush chemical rather than doing all this work?
@susannero6401
2 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the flush chemical you mention. You're probably right. At the end of the video I comment on whether the complete flush was really worth it in retrospect. I conclude that I would have been fine just draining and topping off. But I learned alot going through the full flush process outlined in the Haynes manual. Thanks for watching!
