Its better to jack up front with tow tang attached to middle of car in front and take weight off front tires and turn steering with no resistance. Otherwise great video 👍

When the on the power steering on the car, from Toyota, says use Dextron ATF. Use Dextron ATF. Toyota's are by far and away, one of the finest engineered cars ever produced. I currently have three. I once had a 1980 small pick up Truck, which I bought with 165,000 miles for $1000.00. It had a leaking front seal. I had it replaced, cleaned the engine and put 225,000 additional miles on it. I sold it for $2500.00. to a guy who through out the seat, replaced it, installed new brakes, belts and hoses, as well as manifold, and valve cover gaskets, added larger rims and tires, replaced most of the oil sensors, then sanded and painted it with brown primer. It currently has over 500,000 miles on it and runs like a top.

The only steering flush I've ever done, I disconnected the lowest hose, and drained the entire system, by turning lock to lock with the engine OFF. When no more comes out, reconnect hose, fill power steering reservoir, and turn steering wheel lock to lock until the fluid stops going down. Start engine and repeat lock to lock gently until there is no whining noise. I repeat this process one time if the previous fluid had any noteable defect or burnt odor.

Seems the right way to me as well. Question - since the reservoir is being emptied..is there any chance of air getting into the system and then needing to bleed?
@13antoanto

what I do , 1) lift both front wheel , 2) disconnect low pressure hose , 3) block the low pressure entrance fluid holder , 4) get someone to move the steering wheel left and right with ignition on but engine off .. 4) keep adding new fluid until it comes out clear.... reconnect hose . lower wheel , and fluid , drive around for few minutes , check the fluid , and your are done . you save at least $100 .........

Hey Thanks, did your procedure 1 person got a long plastic hose stuck it in the return line, blocked return port on reservoir, filled the reservoir then capped it, brought the hose and 5 gallon bucket inside my car, started car, shut off after flow stopped, did this 4 times, fluid as clear as water now. Turned steering wheel back and forth 4 times after each fill. Then I charged myself 100 dollars. Thank you.

Hmmm, question, doesn't Toyota use ATF fluid? Dextron III? I'd add that to the vehicle rather than whatever is in the o'reilly bottles. But I used this same procedure for my 05' 4runner. Easy and quick.

You can use ATF fluid, But it's better to use specific power steering fluid. It has additives specifically for power steering systems, That are not required in automatic transmissions

Excellent comment, glad you brought it up !!!! Im aware of fact that User Manual says dextron III. Dextron III is red color fluid, as we know. I have worked for TOYOTA Dealership 3 years, we have used for this flush Power Steering Fluid from BG company, which is clear. Brand new toyotas come with clear power steering fluid. I have NEVER saw Toyota car or truck with red dextron fluid in PS system, and i will NEVER put dextron III in Toyota PS system. Of course, everybody can go ahead and use what they want at their own risk. Thank you for great comment.

This not NOT a flush Boris. You are wasting fluid. Manual says Dexron 3. A real flush is lift both wheels in the air. Remove the return line, adding length to this same line going into a 5 gallon bucket. Turn wheel lock to lock while adding new Dexron 3.

@@whateveritwasitis The pump in my Camry with.. hmm, geeze, 190k miles... it was a bit noisy. Shop recommended a full flush, as in disconnecting hoses and running all new stuff in. Their opinion was that on Toyota pumps, the new fluid will stop the chattering of the vanes in the pump. And so far so good, it's quietened it down like new. When you get to high mileage, *all* fluids become essential to change I would say.
