I just changed the oil in my 13 Camry. I have been using the FRAM ULTRA cartage oil filter XG 9972 on this car for years. Its a far superior filter then the Toyota OEM filter, made by Denso. Being a Canadian, I change my oil every 6 months when i change my winter tires over (Nov & May)

Yes. I try to do the same thing with my civic. Never have to do an oil change when it’s bitter cold.

I prefer to use OEM...but I use Toyota TRD oil filters in my 13 Tacoma and my 2010 Camry. If the TRD oil filter isn't available at my local Toyota Dealership, I use the Fram Ultra Synthetic. It's a funny thing, while I was at the Toyota Dealership, the parts guy told me about the Fram Synthetic Ultra and he recommended the Fram. He said that's all he runs in his Toyota's. 😃

Interesting! Haha. I asked my dealership what the cost of the Trd filter was and it was twice as expensive as the fram ultra. Otherwise I would’ve just gotten the trd also.

Also never hurts to throw a magnet on outside of filter. It will pick up metal below 2 microns.

@@canadianroadtrips2833 Surprises me that people talk about the cost of the filter being a few more dollars than the other filter? Who cares about a few dollars compared to the cost of an engine???

Another good filter for your application is Mann W 610/9 99%@38 , 13g dirt capacity and less than 2 psi pressure drop @16.22 L/min with 24cst fluid. Mixed Fibre blended media

If the Toyota filter is 99% (Beta100) efficient @50 micron its the same as Hyundai/Kia both of which in this day and age are very poor (I have a Hyundai). I have many Data sheets from their OE filter maker Mann+Hummel. The filtration efficiency is nothing to do with the Filter construction and all to do with the 'specific grade' of media Hyundai and Toyota have chosen. Its a full cellulose grade and not a very efficient one at that. 3 main types of media in the OE automotive sector, 1)full cellulose, 2) cellulose/synthetic blend (sometimes called mixed fibre) and 3) full synthetic (polyester fleece commonly called), there are many grades of each type. In Europe microglass and microglass blends are shunned by vehicle manufacturers due to the danger of the fibres breaking and flowing downstream. On my Hyundai I have a Mahle OC1255 synthetic blend 99%@38 micron and a super low flow drop (1 psi @ 20L/min with 24cst fluid). The Fram Ultra and Fram Titanium are the ones to get if I were you, the Ultra was tested by AscentFiltrationTesting for Bobistheoilguy crew and it excelled in all criteria.

Why didn't you open the Fram for comparison? I prefer K and N It has the nut on end for easy removal. I have used Fram ultra. The dealer does not want the engine to last for ever and am sure they do not prefill the filter.

Yeah cellulose media vs synthetic glass…. No comparison whatsoever. Also the synthetic media improves oil flow and obvious superior filtering capability. That’s not an opinion, it’s a validated, repeatable FACT. BUT for a OEM lower tier filter the DENSO is a very well built filter. It’s not about oil pump strain… from an engineering standpoint that is a ridiculous idea. The people who design the OEM cellulose Toyota filters don’t do it for the best possible protection. They do what the accountants tell them to with a certain budget. A big reason why drain plugs have been eliminated. It’s a cost thing
