Dan, why haven’t you installed gas assisted hood struts on your Highlander???

That is a good question! I hadn't really thought about that myself. I'm rarely under the hood as this car is so reliable! Have you done this mod?

@@DansWay I did, on my wife’s 2020 Highlander Limited. Thanks for the LED lighting suggestions, she loves them!!!

really surprised the genius Toyota engineers use the Hi beam and DRL in the same bulb, now your Hi beam is ON if you like to use the AUTO mode.

Not sure I understand. The high beams and auto mode work just like normal on my XLE model.

I noticed that there is no high beam dust cover. But the LED bulbs are with fans. That's definitely going to affect it's life span. do you have suggestion or recommendation for dust covers?

It is true that the fan will want to suck in dust. I don’t really know a good way to cover this without also insulating the bulb causing it to heat up. Perhaps just use a can of air spray on them at each oil change…

Thanks, Dan...I am mechanically challenged and your videos make me feel like I can make those changes on my 2018 Highlander...

How do these work with the Daytime Driving Lights?
@DansWay

Good question. They work in dimmed brightness. They do have a flicker to them which I’m fine with, as this actually draws attention from oncoming cars. You can see this if you look for it, but it isn’t immediately noticeable to me.

@@DansWay I was wondering the same thing about DRL's... I have a 2019 HL and live in Canada where DRL's are required so I inquired with Auxito and got this response... "These 9005/HB3 LED bulbs will fit the high beam of your car. But if your high beam and DRL are shared, when your turn on DRL, it may occurs a error or flicker or can't turn on because of low input voltage of DRL." So based on your experience, I guess they can sorta work OK and IIRC some trim levels have separate dedicated LED DRL's in which case the LED high beam upgrade should be fine but my base LE model does not so I don't think I'll chance it. 😾

I installed these on a 2017 Highlander Limited and while they work great as the low beams, my daytime running lights no longer work (no light at all). Any remedies for this?

I personally feels a higher-end, good old halogen bulbs are the best. Still, great video!

The low beam looks slightly brighter than the stock halogen - not enough to switch. Do the LED bulbs blind oncoming drivers in low or high beam mode. This video seems like a sales pitch, not an impartial review

Hey John, thanks for the comments. It is very difficult to make good comparisons of brightness levels with a camera as they simply adjust the captured brightness to compensate anyway. Sorry this feels like a sales pitch, as I was simply excited at how bright this solution is without changing the beam pattern enough to cause oncoming drivers any issues. I have not been flashed by anyone since installing these over a year ago, so that is a good sign to me that these are not obnoxious in beam-pattern or brightness.

@@DansWay I have to disagree with you on the the ability to show the difference in downroad light output. Many other headlight videos do it just fine. Yours is a sales pitch

Best I can do is the bulb comparison at 5:00. Your welcome to your opinion.
