Lets be rwal and forget the journalistcs for one second , what is inherently more reliable , a motor running at 0.8 psi boost or a motor running at its maximum boost of 27psi all the time ??? Just to put you in the mexhanical picture , the v8 works std at 0.8psi boost , if you change the snorkel and the downpipe on the turbo , you gain a lot of power and touque , still operating at 0.8 psi boost . If you did just that to the gd 6 it would proberably explode because the gd 6 is a highly stressed motor working at maximum safe capacity , to put you into the picture , if you were to max out the v8 to the same level with less boost , you get , on a single turbo , as fitted , with a motor that produces a safe operating 684 kw motor that produces 950 nm of torque , torque kept reduced due to trans.ission constraints . Journaliats are bullshitters who go where the highest bribe is .

I really think Toyota lovers have more money than sense. What a ridiculous price.

If you need Payload/GVM, there is nothing else on the market, short of going to a Hino/Isuzu/Fuso Canter. You just have to suck up the price. You get a lot of it back though when the time comes to sell. Retained value is very good.

Farmers and primary producers are not looking for a visceral and immersive experience. We’ll leave that for the weekend warriors and top rail ringers. The 2.8 and auto are almost exactly what we want…..give us an extra cab option and we’d be totally stoked.

Hi there I can’t agree more I have a 2023 v8 79 series happy with it and there is no way in the world I would buy a 70 series with a 2.8 lt engine it is the end of the 70 series as far as I’m concerned

The V8 is Dead . No more Orders . Get out of the Dark ages. I had a New V8 ordered and after driving both the 2.8 Wins . I’ve owned a 2020 Hilux for the past 4yrs and the New 2.8 70 drives just as good . Bad review also you didn’t mention that nothing comes close to the 70 in GVM 3510kg ,GCM 7010kg , way better fuel economy than the v8 and Cheaper Rego and Insurance. I can’t wait to get my 2.8 and Mod it .

The only thing I can see the V8 adding is noise factor. It's got less get up and go, and the 2.8L mated to the 6 speed auto is fantastic. I'm coming from a V8 Troopy and just ordered a new 79 single cab, and it's the 2.8 for the win for me. If you drive them back to back (which I did) the 2.8 is a killer little engine.

Interesting! Ive had 40,60,80,100,200,300, 75,76,78,79. 5x v8 70s. Sold my 79 and bought a hilux to see if I could live with the 2.8 and auto. Well i can. However, apart from the live axle front, im struggling to justify the price difference of say a gxl dual cab 2.8 79 and a hilux. Yes- the 70 is “tougher” but frankly i think toyota are taking the mickey out of their buyers (and i was the toyota australia auctioneer). I hated the 300 series- great prado. For the first time since the 1980s im looking for a live axle wagon (ie grenadier) and toyota can sell their stuff to the mines

2.8 everyday of the week. These so called journalists need to wake up and realise it’s 2024 not 1990. Talk about a biased review

It would have been interesting to have the V8 with the Auto 6 sp transmission option, if there was one. That would be an interesting match up and test along with the 4cy..🤔 Same vehicle, 4 cyl vs V8...
