Just replaced mine on a 2007 RX350, not sure if it was ever replaced by the previous owner (it’s currently at 237k miles) but I never had issues with burning oil. The old one was absolutely dirty however and I’m glad I replaced mine

Do we really need to put that toyota adhesive on the PCV valve, it's an expensive item that I will rarely use.
@ScottiesHobbies

I really only recommend it due to it being recommended by the manufacturer. If you use a very small amount of RTV gasket Maker, that should work just as well.

Great video! Thanks for the tips and showing us how easy it is to replace and torque. I have a 2009 Lexus RX350 that has a P0333 code that keeps coming up. My mechanic does not think it's the "knock sensor 2 circuit high input" but thinks that something else is triggering the code, so I will start with replacing the PCV valve and see what happens. If you have any ideas what else it could be I would be very thankful for your feedback.

Has your mechanic tested the knock sensor on bank 2? A resistance check can be done. @ 68°f the resistance of the knock sensor should be 120 - 280 kohms. If you can get to the sensor on the truck. Check the resistance on the sensor and check for continuity in the harness at the connector with the key on engine off.

I do not know the application of gasket maker to the threads is appropriate. The service mannual I have (2009 Lexus ES 350) calls for "Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or Equivalent". This is a thread locker adhesive, equivalent to Locktite 271 (red, perminent). I think Locktite 242 (blue, semi-perminent) can also be used.

If you are gonna use a thread locker, I would use a medium bond thread locker. Not the red. I personally don't think these threads need much of a lock. A good seal on the intske system is what i prefer. I've never had an issue. Thanks for watching and saying hi! Good luck on your DIY project. 🤞🏻💪🏻👍🏻

It's worth a try, I guess. But the code you are dealing with is a catalyst efficiency below threshold on the bank 2 side. If it was my vehicle, I would try replacing the rear oxygen center on the bank 2 side and reset the code. If the code does not go away, then the catalytic converter is bad.

Is that engine not original from Avalon or is that a cover from a Toyota Avalon,Camry, Highlander or sienna. Just curious thanks for the video. I'm thinking about replacing pcv on 2007 Avalon I bought it with 175k miles now almost 228k miles I have owned it since March 2021 I've never replaced pcv valve not sure when/if by the last owner. Runs good but occasionally if under hard acceleration I get a misfire on cylinder 4 have not checked spark plug and coil yet but at least it is number 4 upfront in middle so pretty easy hopefully weather warms up soon then I'll be doing some maintenance ( ATF drain and fill not flushing it's the 5 speed first half of 2007 better than 6 speed without dipstick probably using Shafer's LV ATF not WS has 228k miles on original transmission also have had slight drop in mpg probably 4 or 5 but had accident and the grill broke and hood is strapped down but bounces and is causing more wind resistance probably at least half of drop in millage is because of that. Also will be replacing hood hardware and going with 2008 -2010 "facelift" bumper cover I prefer that bumper and already bought new XB led fog light assemblies (5500k) to match my 6000k HID headlights I hate Warm white headlights or fog lights , I'm planning on keeping for at least a couple years I think I will get that especially now that I use company vehicle so will no longer put on 25 to 30 k miles a year probably closer to 10k but than I will buy low mileage LS460 AWD with heated steering wheel that I will really take care of using fancy boutique oil and fluids maybe waste of money but I DIY most maintenance saving money on labor does offset more pricey fluids and oil unless major pain in ass to do Sorry for the long winded comment.

I have the same engine in Avalon. Second hand 130K miles from Florida. PCV was baked. Soaked in Acetone and blew out with throttle/valve cleaner. Then some light penetrating oil. I just did this till the part came in. A good practice is to spray it every 5 K oil change.

I'd personally just replace it if I'm gonna remove it. I replace mine every 30 to 45k miles for around $15. Thats a pretty cheap insurance policy. But either way is a good practice. Good tip! 👍🤞💪
