I've just subbed, my Mr2 is getting the 2ZZ swap and should be done in a few weeks. My partner is from Lithuania and I recently drove there from the UK in my Mr2, a bit crazy and a long drive. Please do more vids with English subtitles. Thanks

Nice video, I just did a 2zz swap as well. I bought a PFC and need to get it tuned. I would recommend to get a better oil pan because the stock one is almost useless and can cut oil specially when you take it to the track. You could by a moroso oil pan or even use the 1zz oil pan as it's a little better than the 2zz pan. Car sounds good 👌🏼

Dar galėjai paminėti kaip moda kad dėžė yra iš tsport 6 bėgių. Nes mr2 penkiabėgė dėžė. Ir neprisimenu, ar perdėta oem lsd iš mr2 dėžės į esama 6 bėgių dėžę?

hello, can you tell me more about the 3d printed vanes ? I also have a 2ZZ in a lotus elise. I have installed the ITG maxogen. Can you tell me what has changed with this part or why it is necessary to put it? thanks

Hey there! Since I was running a custom short-ram intake system I discovered the engine had some issues with idle RPMs and powerband. To me it seemed that the MAF sensor was too close to to the filer and the air vapors was causing issues. I started digging the forums and discovered some topics where people did vanes and it helped. Also, Mishimoto intake systems have this, so I decided to do it right away :) I think it helped to have smoother power output throughout the rpm range 🤷🏻♂️hope it helps!

Liuks! Tik labai rekomenduočiau nedėti turbinos. Jei jau forced induction tai tokiam varikliui nebent roots/twin-screw tipo kompresorių, tik ne centrifūginį! Jei nori daugiau galios, tai visai pigu ir įdomu būtų pasižaisti su e85 kuru :) įdomu kiek papildomų arklių išeitų atsukti. Vienok 220ag ant tokio svorio yra pats tas! 👌

@@motoringmatt Nu tik jau, senas komentaras, bet e85 tikrai yra Lietuvoj kur užsipilti, kiekvienas miestas turi bent po 1 kolonėle. Minusai gal tik tokie, jog iki kolonėles reikės pavažiuoti toleliau mieste, prieš išvažiuojant kažkur į užmiesti pilnas bakas visada, ir nevažiuoti į Latvija nes ten uždraudė prekiaut :D

First of all, great results, great numbers, great graphs. Very good work mate. Only one thing I don't get. The same person did the tune on street and on Dyno? Because it's very strange to make 60 more hp through Dyno tuning. Something really wrong had been done during street tuning...

The whole story was a little bit longer. We've tuned the ECU in street, but the engine was running with a different exhaust, which, I believe was way too restrictive. It even sounded like a boxer engine. When I changed the exhausto to the current one the car suddenly showed some flaws. During the VVTL phase (from 5.5k rpm to fuelcut) it was lieka rollercoaster. It was pulling strong, then it felt powerless at the top end... I believes exhaust was simply too restrictive and it did influence to the map we done on street. Also, I did some adjustments with the intake before the dyno tuning. I installed air intake vanes which, I believe, improved the respons a little, too. The biggest change on the dyno was fueling. It was too lean before, but when we mapped the car in street it showed OK...

Can't safely tune timing on the street, a lot can be gained on the dyno with timing.

@@PatonHaus Actually, no. It is OEM gauges/stalks. We don't have a lot of these cars in Lithuania. Once one vehicle appears to be disassembled and part-out'ed, most of the case it is a UK-spec version with MPH speedometer. Other than that, these gauges may be possible to buy from a used UK spec car.

Eraser XYZ any other modern standalone ECU perhaps. Link, AEM, maxxecu etc... The only benefit Apexi PFC has is that it is a bolt-on solution. For any other ecu custom wiring is required...

Thanks! I can't really tell what kind of hub is that. When I bought the steering wheel I simply went to my friend's place and he gave me that particular hub. It's quite a long one for a hub: approx 100mm.

Hi pal, how does the hydraulic handbrake work? are you running dual calipers?

Hey. Thanks for your comment! The hydraulic handbrake is connected to the same brake circuit (line), directly to the rear brake caliper. An extra caliper just for the handbrake alone would be magnificent, but too expensive to build since the bracket for the caliper has to be custom-made. It's all not very much noticeable, but when operating the brake pedal and trying to pull the handbrake at the exact same time, it becomes too hard and doesn't work that way. I had to learn to release the brake and pull the handbrake simultaneously. Hope, that helps!

when you install oil temperature meter dont freak out...engine bay is too hot . oil cooler is good idea. how did you achieved 5500rpm lift? all proclaimed 5800, after that problems occured. did the porting the head solved the problem? sorry for lot of questions. I sorting my build and want discuss options:)

It is always handy to have the oil temperature and pressure gauges. Yes, the cooler is more important, but all these things are vital to take car to decent trackdays with a lot of long high speed corners. The lift was changed to 5500 via Apexi Power FC. We dynoed the engine with no lift to 7000 and then with lift from 3000 (yeah, as crazy as it sounds 😂). The ideal vvtli crossover point in my case was 5500. The porting was spontaneous, although I seem to see a difference with the intake vanes installed. Perhaps it sorted the messy airflow.

you didnt mention which spring rates you have on your bc's ? i too have the same bc's on my 2zz swapped 01 spyder. but i am running the stock 5/7 which tires are you using ? i have 225 45 15 hankook rs4's

Thanks for the comment! Spring rates are 5/7 as well. I wish it was slightly stiffer. I am running Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. 205/40 R17 fronts and 215/40 R17 rears. An odd choice, but it works better than cheap semi slicks, does not needs pre-heating, although not suitable for long runs due to overheating. Perfect for rain, too.

@@motoringmatt gotcha... yeah i wish i went with the swift springs and paid the extra $200 for custom rates... i woulda went 7front 9 or 10 rear hmm.. that tire choice might probably be why you are having that understeer issue... we have some amazing canyon roads here that have very tight technical sections. perfect for testing and i havent experienced any understeer issues.. i am on stock sway bars as well.. but i am a lot lower then you as well with a much meatier tire

@@theregoesmiller389 The understeer is a struggle only at very low speeds, to be honest. Had it on Federal semi slicks as well. Once the car maintains some speed, it behaves much better.

@@theregoesmiller389 Well, I'd say it's not that white and black :) Wheel alignment plays a part in the way the car behaves. I've tried both staggered and square setups. The car seemed to be pretty loose on higher speeds with a square setup, but it certainly had a fraction more of a low-speed turn-in. It really is tricky to get the MR2 behaving properly at low speeds without compromising the handling at higher speed.

Pretty surprised that ported heads intake and exhaust and tune made 40hp.. or is it 220whp? dynos measure whp and its pretty hard to believe it made 220whp when stock would be closer to 160whp.

It is not whp. It is horespower measured to crank. There is no way such mods could lead to 220whp :) The car pulls strong, tho, but not as strong as would 220whp.

Is that a stock 2zz? 220 wheel horsepower for a 2zz is impressive if it’s stock. Those are Honda K series numbers.

Its power measured to crankshaft :) The engine is stock, just with a ported head and bolt ons.

I see a dip in torque at 5500rpm. Are you able to make the VVTL-i activate earlier to help bring the torque up in that dip?

With VVTLi at 5500 it could have been even bigger dip. We dynoed the car with vvtli off till 7000rpm. Then with vvtli on from 3000rpm. The ideal point for the lift to engage was 5500, although there was that imperfection that you noticed 🤷🏻♂️ I think with some extra hours on dyno my friend could have fixed that, but we ran out of time then 😔

@@bradcogan8588 yeah, I believe thats quite some work to fix that :) the guy who owns the whole dyno suggested me to install 1step better spark plugs. He said he saw very similar problems vanish on BMW Vanos system when the spark plugs changed to better ones. I run Ngk iridium 7, so 8 may have fixed that 🤷🏻♂️ but that is not much more than a wild guess:)

To be honest, I don't know what kind of hub is that. My friend gave it to me, but it may be a very old Nardi hub. It is exceptionally long and I totally love it since my steering wheel does not have deep offset :)

My friend custom-made it in Solidworks and then printed it with a 3D printer. I'm not aware how the material is called, but it's some sort of plastic that keeps its rigidity up to 100'C centigrade.

If you really need it, I could look for pictures of blueprints. With that picture any CAD designer could do it in a matter of seconds. Very basic design, but also used by Mishimoto intakes.

Taip, žinau. Visada yra laisva klasė. Bet ir reglamentas - toli gražu ne šventas arba, sakyčiau, koreguotinas. Gal LASF vairą pagaliau perėmęs supratimą turintis žmogus ar jo komanda sutiks apie tai padiskutuoti :) Čipavimą toleruoja (kur elementariu būdu galią galima padidinti dideliais kiekiais), o nestandartinio kompo - neleidžia. How is that a fair point? Išmetimo kolektorius - irgi keistas ribojimas. Biurokratinius dalykus reikia tvarkyti taip, kad visus dalyvius taisyklės ribotų vienodai. O jeigu tokio progreso nebus - laisva klasė, here I come.

I can't really tell the actual brand/specs. But as far as I remember, it comes from Harley Davidson motorcycle with 1700cc engine :) Starting power very similar to standard MR2 battery.

@@motoringmatt turiu ir aš mr2 buvo su facelift originaliais ratais ir dabar pakeiciau 17 colių , visos padangos tokiu pačiu matmenų ir pradėjau jausti , važiuojant autostrada šioje tokia vibracija vaire , kaip galvoji jei pakeiciau padangas platesnes gale gal dingtų vibracija padangos visos 205 40. Kaip pas tavęs ar yra vibracija ? Gal pasiulytum kokį kitą būdą kaip ta vibracija pradanginti ?

As much as I'd like more power, I would love to retain the crisp response of the engine. Perhaps supercharger is an option, but I'm pretty happy with the naturally aspirated yet :) Maybe I have to look for ways to increase the power with no forced induction. E85 fuel, ITBs, more aggressive cams, etc... But it gets so expensive in the end of the day...

@@motoringmatt i did love the extra sounds off an turbo build the extra money that it took was also worth it. But I was using it as an daily and after 10.000km it needed an rebuild and again. I bought the engine with gearbox for €750. All the swap work and additional components were extra €1200-1400. It would have been cheaper if I got a donor car, because the engine came from Corolla T-Sport and I needed to source some parts from Celica. Also, in other countries the labour costs are considerably higher :)

Your price 12 k eur, but for approximately such price it is possible to buy maybe even bit newer Boxster with 2.7. So good luck ;)

There is a big difference in the sensation you'd get in this car compared to Boxster 2.7. Boxster is considerably slower, heavier, and less responsive. On the other hand, it is hard to compare these two, since one is severely modded, and another - bone stock :)

Yes, oil pump is standard. Ive installed Moroso oil pan and Fidanza lightweight flywheel after this video.
