If it makes you feel any better, I just met a kid who paid $50,000 for a used 2020 TRD Pro. I want to come off wrong, but some of this stuff is simply changes, and how the truck comes standard now. Like the storage compartment in the truck bed. I mean I’m with you that it would be nice for them to include it. But 🤷♂️, that’s how they’re coming. For my use, daily street driving and occasionally some dirt roads, the lowest SR model made the best sense. Back in 2019 I was able to get an SR, 4WD, 3.5 with towing for well under 30k. Interesting about the white paint, I wonder if that's why white seems to always be cheaper. I thought is was that people did not like the white color.
@boomstickpd79

I also bought an 19 SR for around 28k. My only gripe was the windshield washer spray doesn’t activate the blades when you want fluid. Easily resolved with a replacement windshield wiper intermittent wiper switch. If your SR is the same as mine and you want to upgrade, you can order a switch from a 16 Camry. They are the same as 19 Tacoma, but $40 cheaper. I work for a Toyota supplier and had 16 Camry at our plant for testing. They gave it to me after the launch of the new model since the vehicle had to get crushed.

Also, there was no brake controller on the 2nd gen so idk why anyone thought there might be one on a 3rd? I’ve taken mine to AZ twice, Moab twice, Imogene pass once, and lived in Central WA where we get all 4 seasons and everything has held up great with the usual maintenance that comes with owning a truck. I have read that the 2001 Super White is two-stage; it has a clear coat. The explanation I've read is that Toyota used to use clearcoat on only metallics and pearls, due to the slight yellow cast of clear, but as clearcoats have improved in clarity, they've been phased in for Toyota's non-metallic colors since 2015. I believe Super White was switched to two-stage in MY2000, but if there are any Toyota techs, pro detailers, or paint shop pros reading this who know for sure, I'd be interested in knowing if my information is correct. Your driver's side has a grab handle -- the steering wheel. A separate handle on the A-pillar is unnecessary and it's unsafe, as it would block outward visibility and may reduce driver crash protection. You have Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, which allows your choice of about a dozen different and up-to-darte GPS navigation systems to be displayed. Built-in navigation was available on your TRD Off-Road but required the upgraded infotainment with the Premium Package (it is standard on the TRD Pro and Limited), but you're better off without it -- it's archaic and redundant. You do have electrical connections for a trailer. Not all towing requires a brake controller, which is why most factory tow packages do not include it; a brake controller is typically an accessory or aftermarket add-on. You had no trouble folding forward the rear seat; a pull strap for lifting the rear seat bottom cushions forward is unnecessary and it's unsafe, as it can get intertwined with and interfere with the operation of the rear seat belts. Toyota operates on a continuous improvement philosophy, which is likely why this was deleted. The plastic fender flares and lower front bumper are to protect the high-scuff areas; the rest of the truck is not immune from scuffing but is less likely to get scuffed. I'm really not sure what your criticism is. Would you prefer the entire truck was clad in black plastic? If you're that concerned about scuffing your truck, your choices are never take it off-road, or get some PPF film applied (which is a dealer-installed or aftermarket option). Front seatback storage -- I'd rather not have people fishing around there while I'm trying to drive; there's plenty of storage elsewhere, but you are right, its deletion is probably a cost-cutting move. I think the storage box on the left side of the bed was also deleted to save a buck, although maybe it interfered with the Trail package's chiller storage box. It's still a lot of truck for the money. Power tailgate lock is an optional accessory that can be port, dealer, or self-installed. In addition to the genuine Toyota part, there is the Pop "N Lock available from the aftermarket. I highly recommend adding this to any Tacoma with power locks, both for convenience and the security of always knowing that you tailgate is locked, due to the hight theft rate for these tailgates. I agree this should be standard -- at least on the Tacomas with push button start, such as your TRD Off Road, as you'll otherwise never have the need for a manual key. (IMO, push-to-start should be standard on every trim level above the base 4-cylinder SR (which is typically used as a fleet or commercial truck), but that's a separate issue.) I'm not sure what you were referring to regarding a spare tire lock, but I believe the standard configuration is the spare does not have a lock; you need to add a lock if you want it. My understanding is that this is typical for the industry. GoPro mount -- really? I think you missed three of the most obvious omissions on this particular model: 1) Wireless CarPlay. The TRD Off Road comes with a Qi wireless charging pad in the center console, yet you still have to plug a phone into the data port to link CarPlay with the infotainment system. The data port has enough juice to keep the phone charged while using it with CarPlay, which makes the Qi pad less useful than it otherwise could be. It's still useful for rapid-charging the linked phone or charging another phone (say, a passenger's phone) but it would be neat to not have to plug and unplug a phone every time you take a drive. I've seen reports that wireless CarPlay is still a bit buggy, and Toyota is known for only adopting new tech once it's proven to be up to their standards for reliability, so that may be why it's not in this truck, but I find its absence disappointing. 2) Rear USB ports. Yes, these are available as a port or dealer-installed accessory, but this wouldn't be necessary but for the fact that the standard USB ports in the center console are practically useless. The truck is described as having two USB ports in the console, standard, but one is a USB-C, and both are near the bottom of the console, where items stored there make them hard to use, and using them interferes with storage. The standard outlets in the center console would be much more useful (and paying extra to add USB ports would be unnecessary) if the standard console ports were mounted on the outside of the storage box, just under the arm rest, either in the front, in back, or in both locations. 3) Connected Services. IMO, at this price point they should be free for life, and not by paid subscription after a trial period. At least remote start/ stop/ lock/ unlock and SOS should be lifetime; I could understand a subscription model for wifi connectivity, as that's supplied by a third-party (AT&T), but AFAIK, remote start/ stop/ lock/ unlock is software provided by Toyota that simply has to be enabled. I'm less sure if SOS may be supplied by a third party, but it's a safety feature that IMO Toyota should give to all of its customers
