I’ve been using the x68 dual node with wired backhaul for several months now. It’s a super upgrade from my previous Asus lyra mesh wifi system. Very fast speed although I’ve around 24 devices connected in total. Best value for performance set of routers IMO

Hi, my ethernet connection from the provider's ONT comes into our townhome in a cabinet in the garage. It's currently connected to port 1 on the switch. If I understand your diagram correctly, I will have to place the 1st deco inside that cabinet and connect the Ethernet connection from the provider's ONT to the port 1 on the deco, then connect port 2 to the first port on the 8 port switch. Is this correct? It would seem that I'm not able to locate the deco serving as then router inside the house since there's only one wired ethernet port from the living room to the cabinet in the garage? Am I missing something? Thanks for the excellent review/setup instructions.
@metalgeartech
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Your first part is correct, once the 2nd port is connected to the switch it should start serving IP addresses to other devices based off the 1st deco acting as the router. Your 2nd part where you say your not able to locate the deco, where exactly are you looking? What you want to do is then find the other areas of your home that have ethernet wires and connect those to the 1st port of the deco (lets call this one deco2) from there it will be getting its IP from the switch and anything connecting to that deco wirelessly will be able to connect. If you want to connect via ethernet, use the 2nd port on that deco2 for any hard wire connections, for example, another dummy small 5 port switch, or perhaps directly into your computer. Here's how I would test. Do part 1 then reboot the switch. Once rebooted connect any laptop directly to any port in the switch. (Lets say port 2 on the switch since port 1 is connected to the Deco) that device should have internet access and an IP. This is how you know the DECO1 is providing internet access across the other ports on the switch. If this isn't the case its possible this is a smart switch that was configured and needs to be re-configured via directly connecting to the switches UI using a computer or laptop directly connected to the switch. You would open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 (common switch UI IP) or whatever your switch provider is lookup their UI URL to login to. This gets a BIT more complicated. Give those things a try first, good luck!

I just purchased a 3 Pack Deco X68. I can get a Cat 6 cable from the Master Unit to one beacon that goes through 2 separate Gigabit switches. The second beacon would be totally standalone. Is this a viable setup with any benefit or should I just go wireless totally and live with the speed limitation
@metalgeartech
2 жыл бұрын
Hey, the only way I see separating them would be of they are really far apart but if I were you I would do a speed test without your new setup first. Then when your decos come in set it up as normal, either with wireless backhaul or just normal mesh setup and then check speeds. Lastly do your original idea and test. Whichever performs best would be your answer 😎

Thank you for the Great video. I have Ubiquiti Edge-router connected to ONTT and from there it connects to AP. Can I connect Deco units to the Edge router ports, setup as a separate network using Ethernet back haul. Similar to yours, instead of a managed switch it is a Edge router connects to ONTT which I want to keep. ONTT-->EdgeRouter-->Deco(1x3). 2 separate networks, Deco using Ethernet back haul. As per your TP-Link diagram it looks like I have to use Deco units in AP mode if I connect all 3 to my Edge router not as star network

Great review bud. I've just ordered a x68 2 pack. Question: can I run my fibre line directly from my CPE device to the Mesh (effectively replacing my current router) or do I need to connect the first mesh to my existing router? My existing router is trash (and not wifi 6 etc). Looking forward to your feedback.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! If your fiber line from your ISP has its own ONT box as in my video, it should also have an additional port to accept an ethernet cable to whatever other device you have. (Your existing trash wifi router). In your new case it should be Fiber line -> CPE Device (from ISP) -> Directly into any one of the Deco's.

It was just what i was looking for 👍 🔥 Before I jump into getting one of these, do you know if the deco has an option to configure dynamic DNS on the router? @АртёмПоляков-о1в

internet wont work if you plug in switch first. your have to set up settings on your router or Deco in order it to work. with this "settings" ethernet cable goes to switch and then cables from switch go to other parts of your house so everything could work. my english is kinda bad, I hope you understand
So these are actually hardwired? Or is it just the first unit hardwired from your switch, then the other 2 are linked via wifi?

Hey, You essentially are using the 2nd 5GHZ band, but since its freed up due to the wired backhaul, that 5GHZ band becomes dedicated to your devices. In a wireless normal setup, the TPLinks need to communicate via the wireless bands thus your output drops.

Hey, yes it would work, the switch is not necessary as the TPLink would do all the leg work. You would lose some speed depending on the distance of the Powerline connections.
