The ceremony they showed Trace at where he laid the wreath was the Tomb of the Unknowns. It's a special spot at Arlington National Cemetery dedicated to those who died in the line of duty who were never able to be identified. Our 8th grade class actually got to lay a wreath there on our DC field trip. The most amazing part is they have a soldier guarding the tomb literally 24/7, all year long, no matter the weather or temperature, in blizzards, heatwaves, hurricanes, there's always someone standing guard.

Arlington is in Washington DC reserved for the bravest. We get the folded flag at the graveside service. They play taps, give the 21 gun salute, then fold the flag and present it to the family. I am grateful these men and women are honored this way. My husband was also given the changing of the guard ceremony at the funeral home. I'd give my life for our daughters to have their Daddy back. She has said you never get over loosing a parent it just gets easier to deal with over time. Arlington National Cemetery is the most exclusive burial place for veterans and heroes who served this nation. Presidents can also be buried there, but it's 99.99%+ military people who are buried there. So when he refers to it as sacred ground, that's not hyperbole. And the lines, "There's a big white house , Sits on a hill just up the road, The man inside, He cried the day they brought me home," is about the President in the White House crying because the soldier in the song died in combat. As a veteran this song hits close to home and gets me every time I hear it. If you haven't done it yet, Riding With Private Malone by David Ball is another one that can get you emotional because of the lyrics. Also wish I could give this more than 1 like.

Working at a grocery store in a town where a lot of veterans lived (this was back before the pandemic began) I would often thank veterans that wore their hat or some way to identify they were a veteran. This one day I did this and his response for it was the following: “ there is no need to thank me, I was only doing what I thought was right, and doing my duty to god and country” I stood there almost in shock… I nearly broke down in tears right in front of my manager… God Bless the USA and those who Serve/Served
