The Rushden & Higham Ferrers branch line railway which was opened on the 9th of March 1894 and was to run from what used to be platform 5 at Wellingborough (now platform 4 since platform 3, a Bay Platform no longer exists) through to Rushden then on to Higham Ferrers. The line was closed in June 1969 after a long battle from the locals trying their hardest to save the railway. The Rushden Historical Transport society bought Rushden station in 1996 and now have a section of the railway as a heritage railway.
53 years from its closure, I start my walk from Wellingborough Railway Station and head out in search of this once glorious railway and walk it as far as Rushden Station heritage railway. I had no idea that a bridge behind Rushden lakes still existed and the original name for Rushden Lakes is Skew Bridge, Named after a railway bridge which once crossed over the busy A45 (Obviously before the A45 was built).
