It is worth noting that some ancestry testing companies do offer specific panels or tests that focus on indigenous populations in certain regions. These specialized tests may provide more detailed information about an individual's indigenous heritage within a particular geographic area. However, it is important to approach these results with caution and consider them as just one piece of the puzzle when exploring one's ancestral background.

@@AncestryUS Africa has a diverse range of indigenous peoples spread across its vast continent. Some well-known groups include the Maasai in East Africa, the San (Bushmen) in Southern Africa, the Berbers in North Africa, and the Pygmies in Central Africa. These groups have unique languages, cultures, and histories that span thousands of years

One reason why ancestry tests may not specifically mention indigenous ancestry is because they primarily focus on continental- level analysis rather than specific ethnic or tribal groups. Indigenous populations are incredibly diverse and span across different continents, including North America, South America, Australia, and parts of Asia and Africa. Each indigenous group has its own unique genetic makeup and history, making it challenging for ancestry tests to accurately pinpoint specific indigenous heritage without additional context or information.

That’s not strictly true. You should have gotten 6.25% of your DNA from a 2nd great-grandparent, but DNA inheritance doesn’t work perfectly. You could get more than that from a 2nd great-grandparent. I get 17% and 33% of my DNA from my maternal grandmother and grandfather, even though you’d think I’d get 25% from both.

@AncestryUS

Hi Leon and thank you for reaching out to us. It certainly could be. It is important to note that DNA does not respect borders and modern political boundaries do not always accurately represent relationships between different regions. Heavy migration over the last few hundred years and subsequent inter- marrying means that DNA for some regions can be particularly admixed, especially with closely related regions. If your ancestors travelled to Canada from France, they would have brought their DNA with them and this in turn would be passed down to you. It's important to understand also that genetic inheritance is completely random and so while we each inherit 50% of our fathers DNA and 50% of our mothers DNA, we do not get an equal split of their DNA. This can lead to surprising or unexpected results. We've linked an article below which discusses inheritance. support.ancestry.com/s/article/Understanding-Inheritance

@@ishowspeedfromstatefarm1095 not necessarily. Dna is tricky. The tests only show you the markers you've inherited. For example, Asian dna pulls up on mine but I have no Asian ancestors... except 70 thousand years ago before Asians crossed into the Americas and became native Americans we know today, which was about 30 thousand years ago

@@stonegang21 , Okay. I consider them native because we don't know where they were besides here. They are the first, that we know of, to live in America. Scientists believe that we all originated from Africa. The Bible states that Eve is the mother of people. Then, Noah repopulated after the flood. So, Native Americans, along with all people, probably originated from the Mesopotamia area or either Africa, IMO.
