A 95m throw plus 2 bonus point throws is worth more than a 99.93m throw. I open the event with a low angle on the bonus points because I've heard that the distance of the first throw effects the next throw very slightly. So the farther the better, as long as I still get the bonus. Then I throw for distance on the 2nd. If it's over 95m then It's worth more to get the bonus on the 3rd.

@giopiso Never played with a stick. I've known about the stick being used in other parts of the world for a while now and still wonder how different the results might be. I think hurdles and hj might get better results. Jav, lj and hammer would be about the same and the 100, I'm not sure. I did used to play atari 2600 Decathlon with the stick and ran 10.04 100m. Wish I could find a legit used machine with good buttons. Buttons are everything. What MAME button board do you use? I see someone bragging up 2.51 as a HJ record, I considered 2.49-2.50 average and hit 2.51 often. The two finger technique lets you pound buttons while you adjust your angle, that helps a lot. I was pals with a legitimate Pac Man WR holder, he was solid on TnF also and really pushed me. Did you play Hypersports as well?

Hector Fly Cool. Appreciate the reply. I need to learn your long jump and jav technique. I use the eight-finger (not as well as you) on everything but hurdles (which I use the thumb/pinky method on) and high jump (which I just use two fingers on). Need to do whatever you're doing on HJ, too. Again, brilliant. Buddy taught me the eight-finger at Stop & Go around 1984. Been using it since. It's completely foreign to most people (who just pound the damn buttons with the palms of their hands or use a pen). Love your cocktail table too. Guy here in Houston has one but most of the leaf switches are garbage (so only about one or two players are worth a darn) and his high scores are all jacked (with garbled characters/etc); I wish he'd sell it to me so I could fix it up. Anyway, good stuff, man. Much respect. A long time T&F fan.
@mattbuc16

Hector Fly Also, your game use leaf switches or did you replace them with microswitches? Are microswitches record eligible? Or does that count as a doctored machine?
@FlyHec
9 жыл бұрын
mattbuc16 Mine still has Leaf. I've played some machines with micros and I think they feel slower with 8 finger but faster with 2 finger tap. Good for Hyper Sports but not good for T&F. I'm not sure if changing them would be legit or not. My guess is that it would be ok. It was an industry standard back then in most of the world. Japan and most machines in Europe had micro.
@FlyHec
9 жыл бұрын
mattbuc16 Leaf switches are easy to fix. Usually just need to be cleaned and sometimes just bend the contacts if they get too close or too far apart. The garbled score/records is just a dead battery. He can either switch it out. Its a standard coin cell battery or flip the dip switches to NOT save the high scores and it will be fixed. Snatch it from your buddy and show it some love!

Up until October it took 93k to get in my top 100. I swapped the board to Hyper Sports for a party and had trouble hooking the T&F board afterwards and lost the records. So the scores currently on it are from November to December. At this point I trashed any game that was not on 94k pace. It takes 94k to get in the top 10 but I'm pretty sure the bottom part of the 100 is kinda weak. I'll check it out and post back later.

@yorick8080 Pressing the buttons while the hammer is flying does nothing. I just have restless fingers and have to do something while waiting. But it helps a ton on the high jump. I think about 2.45 is the highest possible without pressing the buttons.
@ccsluf
3 жыл бұрын
I remember concluding back in the day that 2.42 was highest possible without "boost." At least that was the highest I ever got and my form was pretty much like yours. Don't remember if I "ran" during approach though. (Does running during approach make a difference in HJ?)
@FlyHec
3 жыл бұрын
@@ccsluf no, but it does ensure that the instant you jump you are already tapping and not missing precious taps during the upward airtime. I also do it that way so there is 1 less thing to think about while timing the jump. My running hand is on cruise control.

If you only got 2.42 on your 90k game then you should be able to get 94k with better high jumps. Worth 500 for every jump. So 2.42 to 2.51 is another 4500pts. There are lost of different styles that work well on High Jump so keep working at it.
