Alternatively, scripts like Tracks Tags by spk77 or more recent the BirdBird version can help a lot with such situation. Though screensets are more than enough for most basic usage :P

Just checked it out, indeed maybe even better than Kenny's solution because it seems to solve the problem of having different numbers of tracks per instrument group per project. Thanks for the tip X-Raym!

The best DAW with the best tutorials. I assume if you leave tracks up on a project template, you could preemptively set up these screen sets on the project template and have that work done already from the moment you load a new project. Only problem is I think you'd have to do this without ever adding new tracks to the project for it to work. Someone with more Reaper knowledge can probably find a way to finish this thought and make it work.

Great. you read minds! I work on large orchestral midi sessions sometimes when traveling with a 13 inch. It's hell to navigate with a small screen when there are a hundred instruments to manage. I was just dreaming of this type of trick on reaper just yesterday and presto! You bring me a solution directly. Thanks !!!

This is one of the nicest features for navigating really big post audio editing sessions - such an under-appreciated time saver. I do find myself wishing that there was a way to automatically, intelligently update the screen sets when tracks are added. Using Kenny's example session, let's say you decided to create a sub-folder within the drums folder for a bridge section where you overdubbed a different drummer. If you did not then manually update the screenset to include the new tracks, the next time you recall the "Drums" screen set it will not show the new stuff. It would be amazing if you could assign the "Drums" folder track to the screenset instead, such that every time its recalled it shows ALL current children of the folder. Perhaps this is already doable? I would not be surprised if someone out there has found a way to work like this.

It kind of is but you have to be careful how you work. On the bottom left of the dialog, there's a checkbox to "Auto-save when switching screensets". If you have it selected and you're in the "Drums" screenset, it will autosave anything you do in that screenset. Like adding new drum tracks. So if you switch to "Everything" the "Drums" screenset will be saved. But if you had the "Everything" screenset active while adding drumtracks, it won't work. You'll have to manually update it.

Amazing! I'll experiment with using this in a default track template. I tend to use a lot of the same types of purchased stems and this would save me a lot of time in organization! Thanks again, Kenny! Great content, as always.

Brilliant!! This is one of my biggest issues. As soon as I saw 'Homebase' I knew exactly what was going to happen and this blows my mind. I feel ridiculous for never having learned about this. I'm planning on watching all of your videos now. In KZitem. With my ad-blocker turned off. Thank you!!

An interesting tutorial as usual, Kenny. I just used it to set up some Track Views for my default start-off "Template". Then created a Cycle Action linked to Shift-F2 to scroll thru the different views. Thanks for another useful video. (PS I re-use and rename the same start-off Project rather than an actual Project Template)

Another great video Kenny! I have a question. Suppose I create a screenset, say ac guitars, then add fx, Eq, delay amp sim, etc. then save it,. Now I realize that all the fx I have on the track is using a lot of CPu, so I freeze the track with the fx on it. If I resave it, does it update the everything screenset? Also, what happens if I decide to unfreeze the track to update the fx. Do I have to save it again? if so then how can I go back to the way it was before I saved the original screenset? Thanx

Most changes will need to be updated. Which is why I would save this step to be closer to the mix. Unless you don't mind updating along the way.

This function is designed to switch the working environment of the program (appearance). To work with groups of tools there are track folders! They can be folded 2 times: small and very small.

Are screensets project specific? If yes, this is great. If not, track setup would always have to be the same, no? Like vocals would always have to be tracks 7-10 as an example.
@ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP

no, they're stored in the global reaper-screenset.ini file but you can make them project specific if you save a copy of this file after storing them for a specific project, then when you load the project you can replace the current version of the file in the REAPER resource directory but of course if you have several project tabs open only one group of screensets will be available across all such projects

Wow Kenny! This is something I was trying to achieve but got nowhere. I would like to be able to edit drums, guitars etc separately, just like you showed us. But even better: I'd like to be able to edit drums and bass together, bass and guitars, drums and vocals, etc. The only way to align them (and other stuff) in relation to each other is to have them aboce each other. It would be great if I could do both by using 2 layers: one just like yours, and one for specific combinations. Do you think that's possible?

That's a bit tedious. ...and demands to build all this on each Project, right? Ok, the project now can be better "engineered" and it seems to be worthy the work for it...
