I know you have in the parts list a 3/8" barb hose fitting for the venturi hose. I went with a 5/16" barb, as the 3/8" seemed too big for the hose. 5/16" is plenty large enough to bite into the hose, and is easier to install the hose on.
@datadrivenmqb

Thanks! Yeah I think it's actually a weird in-between size, but the 3/8" hasn't been an issue. Will update the parts list with a note!

Would be interesting to attempt the MK8 retrofit on my MK6 GLI with the EA888.3 engine. As it shares the AH/AP PCV part number with early MQB GTI's. Although would probably run into some issues with the whole turbo pipping being flipped and different on the PQ35 platform. This is great work here and will still be following to see if it can be possible for the small Gen 3 GLI community.

I will do the MK8 Full Retrofit but I do have a question, my GTI is a mk7 with Stage 3 - Billet Upgrade IS38 and it should be pushing around 450 crank at 23 psi, im using a Twin Intercooler setup with full 2.5" charge pipes and 2.5" muffler delete, there is no lag and it spools really quick, with an Epman inlet, full 3 inch downpipe and catback exhaust, and I just observed that my TIP had NO OIL at all, it was bone dry, I wonder how much vacuum would be "bad" for the engine or if it doesnt produce that enough crankcase vacuum to be harmful for the engine, its my daily car and daily i do a few pulls but i dont track the car, just spirited/hard driving here and there, but i want to maintain the engine healthy for a long time. You are doing an AMAZING job my friend! Couldn't be more thankful!

The crankcase only sees what the diaphragm allows (about -0.9 to -1.1psi at times), so that shouldn't be a concern. In all reality the OEM system is imperfect but it works "good enough" on the street. The Epman inlet at least generates a decent amount of vacuum so I imagine it'll be fine with larger turbos and you wouldn't encounter an issue unless the car is tracked. Oil in the TIP will happen some regardless of what's used. I've seen it on MK8s and they don't even have a TIP hose. People make way too big a deal out of it IMO. If it were truly a problem we'd be dumping quarts of oil out of our intercoolers like SRT4s do every several thousand miles.

@@datadrivenmqb Thanks a lot for the insight brother! I'm going to do the full retrofit soon, I just ordered an EVO3003 intake from Injen and probably going to stick with the Epman inlet even with the full retrofit...and hopefully still having zero oil burn just like I am right now using the MK7 PCV. Very much appreciated all the effort and knowledge! Keep it up! Cheers!

The parts list is in the install video. Just did the retrofit myself last weekend. The only thing that wasn’t listed was the BMS turbo inlet pipe.

The BMS TIP isn’t needed specifically. I believe he chose the BMS because it’s one of the worst offenders when it comes to the PCV system.

Parts list is still the same. I added it to the description of this video along with references to the prior testing/etc. and install details. The BMS TIP definitely isn't necessary - it was chosen to run based off of testing in this video: kzitem.info/news/bejne/saCZ1qCXmJGjnI4 In a nut shell the Venturi is more stable with bigger turbo inlet pipes than with the OEM TIP... though it still works and functions regardless.

Why does my Mk7 Golf R not have any oil in the catch can? I have an Amazon "Kyostar" elbow on a Mishimoto intake. I see all these "problems" and know GTI's have it for sure, but on a track I have never had any smoking or oil in my catch can. Are Golf R pcv or the effect of a is38 different somehow? I appreciate the videos!

Hard to say because there are so many variables. Track and timing of driver inputs also come into play. I have a bit of data from Hogpen (the problem turn) this past weekend which is really interesting. The degree at which pressure goes towards positive has everything to do with how well I’m taking that corner.

Do you think I’d still benefit from this on a big turbo/ fueling setup?
@JordieG8

IMO yes, keeping the crank case in vacuum helps prevent seal blowout and helps ring seal.

Yes, what @JordieG8 said. Keeping the crankcase out of positive pressure is always a good idea.

You always want to have crankcase vacuum if possible. It improves ring seal and is free power.

What do you think about the ECS tuning catch can system for the mk8? Have you seen what it consists of? Its way different than the APR system I had on my mk7 I bought it but haven’t installed it yet.
@datadrivenmqb

Not sure. It looks like it keeps the MK8 suction jet pump, but it's pulling it's full vacuum on the can. Potentially may fill fast, but without someone trying it there's no way to know. Seems like a good solution in theory, but the lines are awful long and POST venturi, so that's a LOT of volume to draw vacuum on every time it's depleted. Definitely follow up on how it works out if you track or autocross the car! I added a can to my MK7, but it is between Venturi and TIP so the stock Tiguan hose is still the only volume that needs drawn down before pulling on the crankcase. The Venturi essentially blasts into the can. I have some plans for a video coming up with more info on PCV progress, theory, and what the MK8 retrofit does/doesn't do.

I have been following this for a while now. My 2017 s3 is MQB obviously but I was wondering if all of this would fit and function the same as you have it here. I am tuned stage 2 currently and I have the APR catch can kit but I’m worried it is increasing my crank case pressure. I opening my oil fill cap while it was idling and oil droplets were being blown out.
@datadrivenmqb
7 ай бұрын
Yes it should all function exactly the same on your S3. APR (and all PCV plates for that matter) do away with the intake pathway in the cylinder head which is used at idle. Not a big deal for a dedicated track car, but IMO has no business on a street car. I'm working on procuring an APR kit to throw on my car and data log on the street for comparison to basic and full retrofits for reference.

@@datadrivenmqb Yeah it has me worried about over pressurizing the crank case now. In your parts list you posted it shows the Tiguan hose and that does come with the Venturi part as well? I never did like my Apr TMD so I’d probably go full retrofit.

Just a follow up. Installed the full retrofit on the stage 2 S3 today. Easy peasy install with your parts list. With my APR catch can plate I was slowly seeping oil from the filler cap. During idle opening the filler cap would spray oil from positive pressure. After full retrofit, opening the cap at idle I can hear the vacuum sucking around the seals as I twist the cap open. Haven’t done a full test drive yet but I still feel relieved. Maybe my engine seals feel the same. Thanks for the whole series!
