I'm currently hosting a mapping competition in my discord, and the winning maps will be made into a video, so join if you want to check that out! Discord server - discord.gg/sRB54zg I've witnessed and been a part of a ton of arguments about these black/wood blocks, hopefully this video sets the record straight on the actual issue with the blocks and which actually have/had issues. Also I had a bit of fun with the mythbusters gag, hopefully it's not too intrusive to the viewing experience xd. The top10 tracks of may will be coming soon, rendering takes a while though and I started off a bit behind with uploading the february maps not long ago. In this video I used my laptop mic, for some of the others I recorded using my webcam mic, not sure which people like more (or more accurately, hate less.) I already have some others recorded with the webcam mic but if people like the audio in this one more I'll switch to using the laptop one when I can.

Dude, looooooove this content. I'm excited to see what else you'll put out! Regarding the mic, I personally think the quality of this video suffers from the mic. The previous video (the Top Ten of February vid) had a slightly better mic (the webcam mic?), which didn't suffer as much from loud esses and a lack of lower tones. This video's mic (laptop mic) also had a bit more noticeable room noise. There's no need to invest in a better mic before it makes sense, but there are ways to improve mic recording quality without spending money. If you are interested, I recommend watching some of the guides by EposVox to improve stream and local recording audio quality. E.g. his video called something like "Ultimate Streaming Audio Guide". Though it's worth just checking him out in general - top tier content. Sorry if this is too much. I'm really into good audio, but I know not everybody wants to invest as much time into it :)

I probably won't be uploading any more tm videos like this on the channel you are currently commenting on (I mostly decided to put all of the high effort videos in one place from now on). I may at some point finish one or a few more and put them on this channel I'm replying with, but they're a lot more work on the script end and I have other projects going on too. Anyway glad you liked the video! I did get a mic since this though haha

This was super well-presented and extremely informative. Thank you! I do believe Nadeo made the right decision to not retroactively update old maps with the new blocks, since a lot of them were made with the "slipperiness" of the old blocks specifically in mind. As for ice, I *do* feel that it makes for a superior new player experience to have all ice act the same, but there's a valid discussion to be had about the viability of simply adding a new set of differently-colored ice blocks with the new physics on them instead, although that would increase the learning curve because new players would have to learn how to drive on both surfaces.

This is somewhat off-topic, but regarding the update you mentioned from December 14th. They fixed the bumpy polygons on curved black blocks, but made sure old maps were not affected by the change? If so, then what the hell were they thinking when breaking old maps with ice, icy boosters, reactor, bumpers, etc.. (I doubt they will ever fix this anyway)
@TimKevinHassanAbdul
Жыл бұрын
I might be completely wrong here, but I assume it has to do with changing the physics/ core behaviour of the game itself (i. e. having to rewrite part of the core code of the game that is run no matter the map you play) versus changing assets that are loaded by the game. For the black platforms, they essentially removed the old blocks and replaced them with the updated versions in the editor. This way, the block technically does still exist for the old maps that used them, but can not be used to build new maps.
@thecatdaddy1981

@@TimKevinHassanAbdul Good point, but I still think it has to be possible to make a game engine toggle between different physics. I'm sure it would take some work to setup a system like this, but once it's done it would be like flipping a switch. Take any game that has console commands/cheats as an example. You can type in a number to alter things like character movement speed, gravity, damage/health, etc. So many aspects of a game are just numbers which can be changed. Plus I think from both players' and mappers' perspectives in TM, it's so stupid to have maps broken. Even though old campaigns aren't actively competed on, new players will want to play through them once they buy standard/club access. Then there's many people who stopped hunting track of the day author medals. For mappers it means any map they create has the potential to become broken, purely at a whim if nadeo decides to change something. I guess it becomes part of a bigger issue with live service games. It's such a disappointing trend compared to older games that play and function the same when you come back to them years later.

In those cases they had to change the surface. Presumably they could have made a new surface and updated all of the vanilla blocks though (and all the item makers would need to update their blocks). I would guess they wouldn’t have done this because they don’t want some maps still being made with old ice physics and having it be indistinguishable (visually) or that it would have been a lot of work. They also have fucked with surfaces that are entirely unused in vanilla blocks though, like bumpers, so who fucking knows because I can’t begin to imagine why they had to do that.

So, to fix this, Nadeo needs to make these black road blocks have the same polygon configuration as the normal road blocks, right? (As we see at 2:40)
@SkiFreakTM
Жыл бұрын
Correct, and they already did that on like 2/3 of them, just for some reason not all idk why. An earlier version of the video explained this better but I cut it out because it was mostly just asking nadeo to fix the blocks which they already kind of did.

Were you able to use the persona ost without getting a copyright strike? Because it seems super common to use their amazing music yet when I google Atlus copyright, it brings results about them being extremely strict with it.

Most video game soundtracks are not on KZitem’s contentid, that’s why a lot of KZitemrs use video game osts. I have used the persona 5 soundtrack and covers in a number of videos on my other channel too and haven’t had issues. I have heard of some weird copyright stuff from Atlus as well but I don’t think it was music related, and I know bigger channels like emplemon use some of the songs from p5 without issue.

The older versions of those blocks have too few polygons (not triangles, similar effect as the slippery nadeo blocks though. Juice made some newer ones in late 2021 or early 2022 that are smoother, but the overall geometry of the blocks isn't the best (the shape is slightly convex i think is the main problem but I might be wrong), so the blocks are still somewhat chaotic to drive on (in the sense that small changes in entry/inputs will give a very different exit) even though they aren't bumpy.
