It's super cool to watch these videos again! A couple summers ago I got my Grandad's JD 520 running again. The oil bath cleaner on that was also disgusting. There were at least 2, maybe 3 mice that somehow found their way in the oil. That was a mess to clean up for sure!

the pre-cleaner on the air filter is a double edged sword: in very dusty conditions it will get a lot of dirt and hay dust from the air before it gets to the oil bath, but even with the top lid tight on an old pre-cleaner it will leak rain water. i put RTV on the threads and around the nut so less water gets in the oil bath. you are correct that only one gasket on the canister oil filter.

It's amazing how some people neglect their tractors. You showed a fine example of neglect in the form of nasty peanut butter looking substance; and they wonder why their tractors quit on them, no excuse for such blatant neglect, pure laziness perhaps..

That happens with all oil bath filters. Condensation occurs and gets trapped under the layer of oil since the water is heavier. They're always nasty looking. The up side is that they keep working. You can filter with oil, and also with water. I agree that the layer gets thicker causing the engine to have to suck harder to get air. They do require maintenance which of course no one looks forward to.

Getting up a 5:30, waiting until you are in the middle of a field far away to be forced to change a filter, and then bringing tools one-by-one would just be the next level in efficiency though.

The air doesn't get pulled through the oil in an oil bath system, it gets pulled down and is forced to change direction near the surface of the oil and the change of direction allows the surface of the oil to collect the dust, not nearly as efficient as a good paper element air cleaner.

You are producing very interesting videos and we can see you reaching a million plus subscribers. You most likely watched Marty T and Andrew Camarata. Both have been very successful and the one thing they have in common is that they do not talk a lot, just enough to inform us of what is going on. We believe that you are explaining /talking too much. Please take this as a positive comment, practice it and watch your channel take off.

Synthetic air filters are so high quality that this kind of stuff is far obsolete. Even a quality paper one is going to be pretty damn good. It was just easy tech of the time to use oil to catch big stuff. It absolutely isn't filtering worth a shit.

Once you clean diesel tank and lines dump a Whole Bottle of cetane boost in to tank don't worry about the gallons to treat just drive it around about an hour injectors should be happier. And smoother sounding. It's not a garden tractor (kabota) ,twice or three times the amount HP and torque ,4gals oil wide open 1500 rpm range 6 bottom plow twenty ft disk 24" sarated disks all day long ...
