Watching you bounce the rear tire reminds me of being a kid and watching my dad lift a full tidy tank of diesel off the flatbed with the lil kubota tractor. Had the plow on the back with sandbags ratchet strapped on. And of course, as all fathers are known to do, use child labor. Or in my case. Child weight. I was worth at least two sandbags damnit. So I was sitting on the plow with the sandbags too. Seemed to be a recurring theme... Tractor needs counterweight? Sit here. That post auger needs weight to break through the ground? Sit here. I'm gonna have lunch and a smoke with my buddies on the rigs and someone needs to hold the throttle pedal at a certain RPM on the derrick? Keep the tach needle riiiiight here.

We only ever used the front loader on our older JD tractor for forking hay rolls. I don't think it has the umph for serious lifting. It is perfect for loading rolls on a wagon, though. Unrelated: I like their equipment, but nothing is easy to replace. Their engineers had some sort of fascination with bolting parts on behind other parts. If John Deere made a car, you'd have to remove the radiator to change a flat tire.

I may or may not, have performed a similar adjustment on my still under warranty Kubota (I'll admit to nothing officer.) in order to haul some over sized logs out of the woods. Grinning ear to ear at my easy success until a little rock no bigger than a corn nubbin lifted my rear wheels clear of the ground whilst I was at the top of a grassy knoll. Why when I realised I was decending said hill on the brakeless front axle I thought to myself, "Self, you are about to die." When I fell forward on the hydraulic levers dumping the load and digging the bucket into the topsoil bringing the tractor and not I to an abrupt halt. I, no I continued on the journey down into the depths of the pucker brush with my wranglers full of something akin to beef gravy. Yep,,,,,,changed that setting back soon after.

Told him if he was gonna bump it up....BUMP IT ALL THE WAY Now I'm at 2800 at idle and 2990 at 1500 rippems and I'm able to unload a full ton of pellets off the trailer. I had a FX-4300 OCed to 4.5GHz with a watercooler, but it was still a furnace lol. It wound up degrading within a few months. Admittedly it was pushing 1.45v.

Little Brother-Bear is 3 now eh? My, how time flies... just had my own little female electrician born three weeks ago. She doesn't know she's an electrician yet but that's what I'm here for! :)

The old man at the outfit I used to work for liked to make "adjustments". He owned it all so, have at it. Poclain 220B excavator, look it up. Changed some hydraulics around and at one point stalled the Detroit Diesel V8 ( changed the engine also) and spun it backwards. That was call for a cutoff valve until the engine was up to speed. Was interesting to say the least. When completed the thing would track so fast the counterweight would be shaking severely.( looked like it was gonna launch). Those tough bastard machines

What safety device/rule does not make your job harder? I thought that was the point. So all the manufacturing moves off to the 3rd world.

Dont touch the live busbars makes my job easier. Proper safety rules make it easier, because getting injured isnt the easy way. Of course that wont stop the fuckwit taking safety barriers from around the live moving hydraulics that wont notice the difference if your lubricating them. All because they needed barriers to stick infront of the open and isolated electrical cabinet which only has 24vdc when live. If the safety gear doesnt work, it wasnt designed right. Designed a machine with a deadman switch to run it. Got asked if we could retrofit it to the old hydraulic units cause it was easier to operate than the push buttons. Operation was easy, hold switch, select where you want it to go (up, down, or where its supposed to in the maintenance sequence) and off it went. Nice relaxed grip was all it took. If shit went wrong it stopped. Noone could ever hit the Estop before the operator had already stopped it. Safety device built right in, redundant safety in the Estop, and everyone liked using it. Design the machine to be safely used, and it wont need rules and devices.

@@chasler1741 About the bus bar: If you can potentially touch a live bus bar you are doing it wrong. The rule is not "don't touch the live bus bar", it's "Don't even make it possible to touch the live bus bar." If I need to get into a control enclosure to take a 10vdc reading on an electronic component but there happens to be a bus bar a few feet away - that's when the rules make my job harder.

It’s called a rock shaft because it doesn’t rotate around fully. It rocks back and forth.

Is it a rock shaft because that’s were all the rocks get jammed when they fly up there, requiring a sledgehammer to remove?

As a kid that grew up in the 60's on a farm, I am intrigued by the notion of a 'PTO cover' ? Can't say I've ever seen one. How do you see your baler or rake line-up and mate with a cover on your PTO?
