The problem there is much of what's labelled as British isn't. For example if chicken is imported from Kazakhstan then turned in to chicken nuggets in a factory in Britain it can then be labelled as British. Most people seeing that union flag logo on the packaging would then think it was a British chicken, raised, butchered and processed in Britain but it's not.

We need to support local farmers and the produce they make, the meat should come from our farmers and we should only eat British, the government are hurting our farming industry through foreign imports and our farmers having lower pricing on our produce. If we are not careful and don’t understand what is going on the price of meat, vegetables will sore through the roof and the food crisis will become worse. Stand with your local farmers and farmers across our country. Fight for British food 🍱. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🏴🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

if the farmers didn't chop back all the wildflower meadows in this country for grazing lands, 13 species of bee wouldn't be extinct with another 35 on the endangered list which is why the government is stepping in

He speaks of not being able to sell pork because the consumer gets pork at a more affordable price from elsewhere. Does he buy his clothes from British producers? His car? His electronics? The answer will almost certainly be no. He is a hypocrite. Besides, that is not food insecurity - that is insecurity for the farmers. There would be a thriving British farming sector if consumers either had more cash available or actually put their money where their mouths are. We either need to create growth - which British people are reluctant to support through automation and green tech, or spend more, but British people like to give farmers lip service and still buy cheaper imports. As for conflating climate based policies with British farmers - if droughts, floods, habitat changes etc effect farmers outside of the UK, then we will really see food insecurity.

"We firmly back our farmers" - Absolute rubbish. If they backed the farmers, why import from other countries. It's not just the MPs that have to listen, it's everyone in the world. With all the restrictions on farmers, where do people think their food is going to come from? There's also what that one farmer said. Imported pork processed in the UK being classed as a UK product. Next time I hope they bring 1,000 tractors and surround parliament whilst all the MPs are there. They live in their ivory towers, and as long as it doesn't affect them, they won't bother doing anything about it.
