I was about to die from an overdose in my apartment in Miami all alone after so many different drugs…I went to grab my phone and I couldn’t even see what I pressed and out of no where KZitem started and this song played. My heart was beating out of my chest and then the room turned white and I felt at peace. My heart slowed down and I survived. Jesus Christ is real people. He saved my life...

In the very early 1990's I was lucky enough to see her perform in a small venue on a college campus - she sat on a stool, played the guitar - no lights or big band back up - and everyone in the room was completely in awe. I know I was. I totally understand why Luke Combs father played her cassette over and over riding in the truck with his son, and why Luke says her album and Fast Car has been his favorite since he was 5 years old. She is amazing. I hope everyone starts searching for Tracy Chapman's music. There are so many amazing songs that this generation should get to hear.

Holy Cow! I can't believe it has been 35 years (1988) since "Fast Cars" was released. Where did the time go? From the 1st time I heard that song, Tracy Chapman's first release, I was mesmerized. She is, without question, the best songwriter that has ever lived. Ms. Chapman, I wish you would release a new album. I miss your ethereal vocals, wonderful guitar licks, & Trobairitz's lyrics. And her lyrics are so grounded in 'real life' that I think everyone can find something relatable within them. Perfect example: I had to take continuing education courses to renew my RN license. One of those courses had to be domestic violence, child abuse, &/or elder abuse. Those topics had to be reinforced every 2 years so that we could recognize when someone was in trouble. Anyway, one year I took my CEUs with a large group of RNs (probably 75-100 of us). The proctor came onto the stage, turned on a boom box, & sat down silently in a chair. From the 1st lick of Ms. Chapman's guitar, I knew it was "Behind The Wall". I even said, "Tracy" out loud. The nurse sitting next to me had never heard of her so she asked me for her full name. When the song was over, the proctor turned off the boom box, said that our certificates would be available on our way out, & walked off the stage. I was sitting in the front of the room so when I turned around to leave I saw my fellow nurses. There was not one dry eye in the room. Even the big, hulking Male RNs were crying. And why, because we had all seen what Chapman had described. When I moved to Florida, my Parents & I witnessed a Man bullying a Woman & pushing her. We called the police but they left within 5 minutes. My Father asked the policeman why he wasn't doing anything about the situation, & the policeman turned to my Father & with a very defeated look on his face said, "They're married, & the law says we are not allowed to interfere between a Man & his Wife", & he drove away. So, every time I hear Ms. Chapman singing that line, I cry hysterically.

If she goes back on the road and does concerts, only death could prevent me from going! Haven't listened to Sub City in a long time. Now on my road trip play list. "Hunger only for a taste of justice. Hunger only for a world of peace." Beautiful. Incomparable. The playlist of my teens and young adulthood. A true treasure of talent and intelligence.
