With more light these are significantly more compact with more fuzziness. It's interesting to see how they grow so differently in various situations.

I had a non-fuzzy version of this when I was younger. I found it did really well in Phoenix in almost complete shade, provided you gave it enough water. It tended to get leggy in large pots, but growing in the ground in clay soils it would form a dense green compact carpet with more upright little stalks, almost like a grass. Both the stems and the leaves got thicker and more robust. I had some growing in a large pot that I brought with me when I moved to San Francisco, but it didn’t do well in my dark apartment and died out after a couple of years. I’ve thought about growing it again over the years, but I’d want to grow it in a broad shallow planter like a trough or something, and not with a standard potting mix but with a more alkaline clay soil, since it clearly thrived in that environment.

I would grow the generic form of this plant in my garden. It's a great plant to add to containers, too. Purple leaves with pink flowers. And maybe it's related to the Wandering Jew plant. And today is Passover. I want to get in my car and take a drive to Metropolitan Plant Exchange in New Jersey. From where I live I don't have to go over a bridge. They have decided to stay open during the pandemic. It's a huge open air kind of space. I'm not sure I feel like being outside too much yet. Life has changed. I'm not ready to stay outside for long periods of time. It feels creepy. Stay safe. Stay alive.

I go there, too! What a fantastic place. The one in West Orange is smaller, but pretty great with selection and prices. I actually just found one in Home Depot for CHEAP. Just make sure you get there before they water them to death lol

I saw this plant in my local Walmart today and really wanted it, but I chose a different variety of the tradescantia instead. If the one I bought does well, I'll go back and get this variety.

Oh wow, I am still looking for that Tradescantia that has purple and pink on the leaves, I think it's called Nanouk, I really love this one, also the all purple one. Thanks so much for sharing this furry cool plant. See you tomorrow Summer, and thanks again for this series, it has been fun and fascinating.

I stick my spiderwort cuttings back into the soil... They are the easiest plants to grow in my opinion... I have the non-fuzzy variety and it grows like crazy in all the pots I've got it in

Do you think the fuzz could also be a bug protector? It does seem like it would be hard to climb on, or eat that plant if I were tiny, lol!

I looked it up and am confused. This plant looks more like a "Kitten Ears Plant" aka Cyanotis Somaliensis rather than a Cobweb Spiderwort.
