I got one last May, it was in a pot with 4 other plants. I removed them all and placed them separately. I didn’t even know what it was until I researched! I LOVE it! At first I did overlook her, as I didn’t know! She survived, and I now want to try to propagate, because I do not want to lose her! I think it’s my favorite tradescantia!

I love these classic beauties! And what a perfect timing - I'm taking my plants on the back porch for the summer this weekend and you gave me the great idea to put my tradescantias in a hanging basket. Thank you!

I just took the many brown leaves off of my ginormous plant. It sits in my south facing window. I water it about every week to 1.5 weeks (summer just ended here). Ideas? Thanks for your channel!

This one's #1 on my wants list. For some reason it's super difficult to find lately, but nearly everyone has it on their terrace. Definitely grows well on direct sunlight, climate reaching up to 40C.

Have you done the follow up video on propagation? Mine has gotten very long and leggy and and many on the old leaves have fallen off so it’s only way down at the ends that there are leaves. I’m not sure what I should do with it

You can take cuttings and repot them if you want to tidy the plant up a bit, they can look a little tatty after a while.

Hey! Great video! How would you propagate this one? I just got an accident and it broke a part, so I would love to repot it. Thank you!

Yes you can, it's propagated by division so just pull it apart and lob it in a pot. :-)

They climb or hang down so you can prune them back if it gets bigger than you would like.

I just got this one yesterday from my favorite garden center. I wanted a tradescentia that I know will survive up here in the north inside my home. Can I take it outside in Spring when the temperatures reach 65 to 70 degrees

Yes I would imagine so they are quite rugged, just don't let them escape into the wild.

I am trying to find out the name of a plant I bought at a Walmart Garden center that apparently had the wrong name labeled on it. It has an UPRIGHT growth of dark purple and green leaves. They are much darker than this plant and they don't grow the same. Mine are much more vertical. They are dark green on the top, dark purple on the bottom, oval shaped leaves and have tiny star shaped flowers that grow out from where the leaves join together.

Thanks for the video! I need some help - I rescued my moses in the cradle from the to-throw pile of our local nursery, and saw it grow from brown scraggly leaves to this beautiful, light green plant with a slight purple on the underside. I had to unfortunately travel, and my neighbor overwatered it and apparently most of it died? It is down to just two leaves, clinging on for dear life. How do I help it? The leaves dont have much of a root, but have stayed green for over a month after the rest of the leaves died (I didn't see the dead leaves). Am I putting the plant through pain by keeping it planted?
@HouseplantHacks
Жыл бұрын
As far as I am aware plants don't feel pain so I wouldn't worry abut that, it sounds like the plant is too far gone to me but while it has some green leaves it still hs a chance so keep your fingers crossed! Just remember that you rescued it from the skip anyway so you gave it a chance at a better life anyway. I hope it pulls through.

Have the white rose ever grown out for you? I had one of these for over ten years, and suddenly a white rose popped out, like 7 years after i got it, once a year. But the new ones i have does not give any white rose. Am i wrong, but the beautiful purple color is actually poisoned if am not mistaken, to protect it fro certain bugs when it's living in the wild. But it's beautiful if you get to survive like several years. You can just cut it off in the lower root if it gets to thin and weak and falling. The old one i had looked like an tree on the tribe, and the tribe stood by it self also, i miss that, it was very stately, was over 60-70cm high and it doesn't needed any pin to support it from falling. But the white rose was an added experience.

Hello, thanks for this video. I have several of these but mine are leggy and not as vibrant as yours. What am I doing wrong? I house them below an east facing window.
@HouseplantHacks

If they are getting leggy they may need a little more light, the lack of vibrant foliage can be for the same reason, maybe try a different room and see how they do for a few weeks.

Hi there, great video. I really love the purple/magenta leaves. Mine keeps shedding its old leaves so within a couple of months there's a naked brownish stem with roughly 6-8 gorgeous leaves at the top. Has it ever happened to your pants? I have it for four years now.

I hope you figured it out by now and the plant is still hanging in there. Most likely needed a bigger pot, and less water. I had similar problems with mine before I re-potted it, and ever since it's been thriving. I've re-potted three times now and I'm just about at the limit for the room I have.

Mine is really leggy too and drooping over the side of a 6" pot and hasn't propagated at all. Prune it back a bit and give some more water and should perk up a bit.

These are a ground spreading type of plant so this lanky habbit is natural, if it looks untidy you can cut it back and it should grow more dense.
