Grannie did this back in my childhood in 1950s I remember coming in from school as her cottage was very nearby in the village... I would always have Something to eat (always, starving nothing changed there then 🍰😅) and proper dense bread pudding cold would hit the spot till supper.. Thanks again for the memories GEOFF

Morning Geoff. This is a new one on me. Looks like a light fruit cake. Aunty used to make a fruit cake but would use advocaat instead of eggs, That was spectacular.

HI Cornz38. It is actually very heavy, as you might expect with bread soaked in milk, eggs and butter. It is very good indeed. I like the advocaat idea.

SOrry Geoff, when i said light, i meant to say "pale" or light coloured. I think that's what reminded me. It was a pale fruit cake, not a dark xmas kind. I remember the cherries (whole glace), the golden sultanas, the orange peel, the crunchy sugar topping and the moist sponge that had "booze" as she called it. Of course i didn't know what advocaat was and it was only years later my mum told me that was her secret. @@geoffsbakingblog

It's a lovely recipe. Almost the same as the one I use although I don't use salt. The one variation I use is to soak the bread first before adding the other ingredients. That way you can squeeze the bread in the milk without squashing all your fruit.

HI Caz. You can wrap the bread pudding tightly in plastic wrap, or put it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will last 4 to 5 days(maybe longer) like that. You can also cut it into portions and wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze it for up to three months.
