Retreat Overview
A week long retreat providing access to obligatory sacred knowledge and an introduction to additional religious sciences to English speaking Muslims who have limited access to teachers. This will be provided by teachers from the orthodox way of Islam.
Our aim:
*Inspire love for Allah, His Messenger (peace be upon him) and the Religion
*Motivate students to live according to the Sunnah
*Equip students with knowledge of the central elements of the Religion
*Inspire students to take up further studies with authentic traditional Scholars
Programme
Tajweed: Tajweed is a arabic word meaning correct pronunciation during recitation. It is a set of rules which dictate how the Qur'an should be read. It comes from the root word 'ja-wa-da' meaning to make well, make better or improve.
Essentials of Worship: A complete subject outlining the absolute essentials of knowledge: in faith, prayer, and key points related to one’s life and dealings.
Shafi Fiqh: It is obligatory on every Muslim to study the fundamentals of this beautiful religion, this course will provide an opportunity for students to fulfill a part of this obligation. Students will learn essential details regarding the laws of purity (Taharah) and prayer (Salah). We encounter issues related to Wudu, Ghusl and Salah every day and it is important for us to understand what the correct ruling is, rather than relying on hearsay.
Fiqh of Hajj: This course will help familiarise the student with rulings related to this great pillar of Islam. Many people going to Hajj are ill-prepared because they either suffice with a brief seminar prior to going or worse still, they rely on the knowledge of people in the group who have little to no knowledge of Islamic Jurisprudence. This course aims to provide a more detailed study of legal rulings related to Hajj, helping the student to prepare more comprehensively for Hajj.
Tafseer (Exegesis): Commentary on Surah Yusuf.
Dear Beloved Son (Ayyuhal Walad: Al Ghazali): A well-known reply of Imam al-Ghazali to one of his students, translated in this book, Dear Beloved Son. The student sought knowledge that would benefit him the most in his life, and in his death, and sought to abandon that knowledge which would be of no benefit, and to hold onto that knowledge which would benefit him the most, thus following the prophetic tradition. As the prophet, peace be upon him, once prayed to Allah, “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge which does not benefit”.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad: A code for everyday living, the example of early Muslims. Imam Bukhari's hadith compliation on etiquette and way of life.
Prophetic Miracles: Selected chapters from Qadi Iyad's Ash Shifa.
Every evening: Open Q&A sessions; giving you the opportunity to ask any questions.
Please note: Essentials of Worship & Shafi Fiqh, Al-Adab Al-Mufrad & Fiqh of Hajj (see itinerary) will run concurrently, you are required to choose one when registering.
Course material will be provided.
