Mirror work, also known as 'shisha' and 'abhala bharat', is amongst India's most captivating traditional handicrafts. In this craft, pieces of mirror or reflective metal in different size and shapes, including circles, squares, triangles and polygons, are stitched meticulously on fabric in a beautiful manner. Mirror embellishments represent shapes found in nature, like flower petals, animals, and leaves. Beliefs have been known to encourage the use of mirrors in arts and craft, saying that they trap the evil, reflecting evil spirits and bad luck away from the person who wears them. Rajasthani clothing embellishments reflect the colourful and bright lifestyle of the state.
