Miku buns "面龟" are made for prayers during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival (“Gao Ong Yah” 九皇大帝/九王爷 ). This festival is mainly celebrated in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. This year, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival is celebrated from 4 Oct 2021 to 13 October 2021. During this period, devotees will bring Miku buns go to the temple to pray. After prayers, these buns can be left at the temple or brought back for snacks or breakfast. I usually go to Tow Boo Keong temple in Ipoh. These steam buns are sold outside the temple and the queue can be quite long. So making them is much easier.
Ingredients:
215 grams Hong Kong flour 香港水仙面粉 215克 (Shopee Link: shope.ee/4pdSTYqHM8)
25 grams wheat starch 澄粉 25克 (Shopee: shope.ee/AUHpCoFizZ)
50 grams icing sugar 糖粉 50克 (Shopee: shope.ee/6pOXkaLxGS)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder 泡打粉1/4茶匙 (Shopee: shope.ee/5KZj3Udc1Y)
3/4 teaspoon yeast (instant) 速溶酵母 3/4茶匙 (Shopee: shope.ee/30COIZLR9V)
120 ml water, room temperature 水,室温度 120毫升
20 ml vegetable oil 菜油 20毫升 (Shopee: shope.ee/5pWZcX3mU6)
1/4 teaspoon (slightly less) "rose pink" food colouring 色素 “rose pink" 1/4茶匙(减少一点)(Shopee: shope.ee/3fS6eTvDYB)
