Traditional and mesh pockets each have their own benefits, and one is CERTAINLY not better than the other. They're simply different.
A mesh pocket will 'form' itself as you string the sidewalls. The pocket will have certain characteristics based on the sidewall pattern that can only be adjusted a little bit by adding shooting strings.
Every characteristic of a traditional pocket, however, is determined by the stringer; the width of each column between the leathers, the depth of each of the leathers, the position of the pocket, amount of whip, and the way the ball 'feels' when exiting the pocket on a pass or shot, all depend on how the stringer wants the pocket to perform.
A mesh pocket requires little-to-no maintenance, whereas a traditional pocket requires a stringer to tighten and adjust leathers and strings throughout the lifespan of a pocket.
Again, one is NOT better than the other, they're just different! Which style of pocket do you prefer to use? Would you consider switching to a different style? Why or why not?
