My family are also Pee Dee, but we are not associated with either of the state-recognized groups. We are from the Oak Grove, Latta, Dillon area. When it comes to eastern native groups, or peoples, they are not going to look like a Cherokee, or Lakota out on the reservation. My great grandfather and my grandfather are the last ones of that generation. With the breakdown of the tribe and the complete assimilation of the pee dee into white society, we lost many characteristics of our tribal society, of our physical features and really ourselves. If you ask me, race is not determined by skin color, that can change. Rather, it is the heart of the individual, tradition lived in the hearts of Fathers and spread to their Sons. It is living a tradition that is authentically yours, handed down from Father to Son. One cannot become a part of it, unless they are born into it. Still we are very skeptical about this two groups. As many of these rites and traditions are only to be done in community, and that community disappeared a long time ago, I am not sure if they are Pee Dee. They are definately siouan rites, which most historians agree the Pee Dee were, but they are dressed like 17th century cherokee so, who knows.

Real Talk the Pee Dee is Creek indians, Just like Williamsburg k Town County is Creek Muskogee. People throw that word around we African american ,i am Offended. Back in the day my grandmother put the real talk in my ears and i never forgot. I was always Picked on because I was so dark, most the real native had dark skin. In Williamsburg we have a town called Indian town. I love the history in the country down south. I have family in oklahoma From south carolina that went on the trail of tears. It's a whole Creek muskogee town in oklahoma Real facts.

I've seen some of the people commenting here. Not sure about your proof of Native ancestry or what higher ground you stand on, but I know each one of these Pee Dee participants has well-documented heritage and traditional knowledge of their tribe. I don't see any "white people" on that stage.

@@emitabaulenu Hey Could i ask you a question I did Ancestry not to long ago I got some confusing information. A majority of my family is from South Carolina and North Carolina I share ancestry with the Peedee or whatever it maybe called. But , I'm not too sure My great grandmoother was i think 1/4 native. But it's so confusing because, due to slavery and different things. Nobody took record or anything. And my family is from where NC and SC connect. When I see this video I get confused. I'm like "I look nothing like that" dose that mean my family isnt part of that

@Craig Vann I actually descend from the Pee Dee on my grandfather's side, but I descend from the Chickasaw on my grandmother's side. My grandfather's ancestors were Pee Dee, Woccamaw, Edistoe, Cherokee, and Muscogee. My grandmother's ancestors were Choctaw and Chickasaw, but I'm enrolled Chickasaw and have been involved in my community all my life. Your last name is familiar- I think I'm related to you. My grandfather did some research that shows our relation to the Vanns, so that's interesting.
@noahinson
3 жыл бұрын
@Craig Vann Oh well maybe we're distantly related because I don't know of any family in Ohio. Anyways, that's really cool! It sounds like you know quite a bit about your history. My grandfather's side is pretty detached from their native heritage, so I don't know a lot about mine.

Many federally recognized tribe citizens, particularly those on the East Coast, look more white. You do realize that the PeeDees descend from the Raccoon Comapny Warriors who fought in the American Revolution, and that those ancestors were given the land grants on the PeeDee and Edisto Rivers for their service, right?
