I was gifted one of these a while back. LOVE it. The only issue (and it's rather small) is that in my experience, if it's windy out, the temperature tends to jump around a lot when it's on low temp. for long smoking. I think 'maybe' it's because the volume of air inside is smaller in relation to larger Traeger's and it gets 'changed over' faster. It also might be a combination of that & that it doesn't have the chimney, and the wind gets into the louvers easier. It's not a deal breaker for me, but something to be mindful of in windy conditions. Overall I love it and I haven't messed up a cook yet, and I'm a terrible cook, so that's saying something. LOL.

I bought a Traeger Ranger for Christmas. I got very frustrated with it at first but, after a few weeks I love it. Yes, the temperature is all over the place but, it's cool here in Florida currently plus, when you open the lid the temp drops like a hammer. Nothing you can do about that. Cooking 101. My biggest struggle was the fire pot kept running out pellets with the hopper being completely full. Turns out air pockets were developing in the pellet hopper over time. I over came this by emptying the hopper, priming the grill with one cup of pellets ONLY, then adding two more cups, then igniting the the grill. I also use a long metal rod to keep the pellets close to the opening of the auger every time I open the grill and add pellets as needed when check on my goodies grilling away. Finally, I love this grill because it fits perfectly in my travel trailer garage storage. I can easily take it everywhere I go. Happy New Year Y'all.

Have you used it in colder weather, i found that if you get a welding blanket to cover the top of the grill it will heat up faster in weather below 32 degrees, i put a pizza stone on it, you will have to cut a little notch for the heat probe put it does not effected at all. I have cooked on it with the blanket over it in 10 degree temperture. I have grill grate but i have not tried them yet will move them from my other grills. going to smoke some sturgoen on it this week

I'm looking into purchasing a grill but it has to be small. I'm grilling for one person only, me. So my choices have come down to a Hibachi grill or the Traeger Ranger. I'm leaning towards the Traeger because I prefer not to deal with charcoal. Like I said It's intended for one person and maybe only occasional usage.

So would you buy the Ranger or the Tailgater if you had to choose one for a family of 4 and almost daily cooking at an apartment balcony. Considering cook space, ease of portability and design. I like both of these to have at home and also take camping. The ranger looks cooler and easier to move around but feel like tailgater is worth it for bigger cooking space

It's way to complicated for me. I'm sure its nice if you can figure it out. But two years and still no luck for me. It's a nice paper weight though. We recently purchased a Ranger and we're very disappointed. As a returning Treager customer, I had high expectations for this unit and was let down. Our first unit would intermittently shut down for "low temp" fault codes, or when it would stay running, it would fluctuate in temp by +/- 100F. We contacted Treager, they sent us a new controller and RTD probe. After replacing those components, it would still fluctuate constantly. We then returned the grill to the retailer for another unit and much to our surprise, that unit too would shut down for "low temp" faults. Eventually, we just got a refund and went with another brand. Would have been nice for them to have done proper R&D before releasing this product to market.

I love traegers but the only set back is the power source. I wish they would make one that is an all in one solution for camping. enough to cook say a rack of ribs, with a rechargeable battery that would last say 4-6 hours, the length of an everyday man's tailgate at the ball game. If someone comes up with that kind of solution where you dont need an external power source but have the ranger quality and performance, id make the investment. this thing falls just a little short. loved the review though. thanks for doing it.
