Just finished reading Patrick's book which I thoroughly enjoyed. And recommend! Only been to the Met twice as I live in CA, but the book refreshed my memory. Really enjoyed this interview. Wish I had been in the audience. Good luck to you both.

I bought the book at the show and Patrick signed it. If you love the MET its a very interesting book to read to see the guards' view of what you experience at the Met. By viewing these paints for hours on end, he develops unigue understanding about what is going on in the paintings.

Ooh. This is right up my alley. I go to the sfmoma every week and the deYoung (which gets the Met's shows afterwards often) almost as frequently). I often engage with the guards who have both taught me stuff and let me ramble. 🙇♀️

Oh yeah. People don't often think about them - they all have an interesting perspective on the museum, at the very least, because they've spent so much time in there!

Thanks for the interview. As a side note Michelangelo "Mikey" Bounarroti suffered for his art painting the Sistine Chapel since he had chronic kidney stones and severe gout which made him wired out hyper to the point the Pope wrote "Geez, Mike's giddy again." (The mural "God Separating Land from Water" is depicted as a kidney. Guess, then, its autobiographical.)

That was a great interview, so informative! I like the "Jesus pictures" remark. He's an eloquent speaker who really knows his topic...he did write a book on it. Sounds like a good read!

Totally enjoyed this. Gave me a new appreciation for the guards working the museums around town, like what an interesting beautiful place to have a job. You know in the last year or so museum workers in several cities fought for + won union representation. You love to see it. Maybe I should think about applying 🤔

Interesting show. I can feel his love for the museum and the art that surrounded him. I can see that certain paintings were like family to him. How he was able to build stories around them and make them come alive.

Yeah, spending 10 years with some of the best paintings in the world doesn't sound so bad. Definitely gives him time to think about them.
