I loved Little House....for me it's all about the story on screen. Michael Landon and the others were brilliant...the series was brilliant. Michael cannot defend himself now and anyway I could care less about the accusations to be quite honest. For me it's about the screen portrayal of the book...and that was very well done. Behind the scenes are human beings just like you and me...what else do you expect?

His behaviour on set was unprofessional however talented he was. Karen Grassle is a very good actress and deserved to get a better paycheck than the child actors. He was a bully and obviously didnt take kindly to an actress sticking up for herself. Never put actors or anyone in Hollywood on a pedestal especially with all the horrible things that go on behind the scenes in Hollywood. Most of them are not good people.

You said it very delicately. And I am not one to Judge. You're talking about "sexist behavior". The bottom line with 3 marriages some ending because of the next one. The bottom line is he was an adulterer. A fact. Not a judgment. You mentioned he would upgrade to someone younger & more attractive also. If any man looked like him & had women swooning over his good looks and not to mention millions. It would be hard for a man to look the other way, especially if the present relationship was over and by most of accounts by his philandering: just saying. Again Facts. Not judgment.
@dawnmills5567

Not facts, people say what they want others to hear, bottom line is none of us truly know what happened we hear what some say only the man and woman and God truly knows all the facts. Secondly people must realise that anything you do to others will most definitely come back to you, don't paint one person the villain, one knew the other was married but pursued knowing that she was also married, as a woman I have to be fair, second knew there was a first but didn't care she had someone home, but maybe that life wasn't high enough for her. She could have said NO women also have a responsibility. No let's stop and think a minute, here is a kid 19 coming from a dysfunctional home who knew No love from the first woman in his life, who craves the love of a woman a mother, meet a girl who is way more experienced, 6 years older than him with a child, show him what I suspect he thought was love and for the first time in his life he felt what that felt like, 19 years old!!!! Think!!! He took on a child, her child then another child who needed love and took him as his own as at 19, financially insecure because this was before bonanza, and a ready made family, how long was it going to be before there was going to be cracks? Now the cracks are getting wider by the minute and up came a spider, she was supposed to be going home in a taxi when she saw him for the first time sent the taxi away and changed her mind she didn't want to leave anymore, (quote). And we think we know how the rest of the story goes. It was only a matter of time before she got back her own medicine, and didn't like it. We ought to be careful what we do to others, when he showed an interest she should have considered the other person, I would probably be dying in my heart but I would say to him go and try to fix what is broken, take myself dying self away and give them a chance, I would also let it be known that if you leave on my account without giving it the best chance you don't need to come back. I said that wouldn't be an easy thing to do 👀🙄 but I would have had to bear the loss. I can't see why only Mike is being vilified, second was married three times too and it was the same scenario, each time the men were a little bit richer and had a little more prestige a little bit more fame, hmmm!!!! Who wouldn't love him? And the two first and second women were both older than he was.

ML private life was his business. If Karen Grassle had anything negative to say, she should have had the courage to confront him while he was still alive. It's wrong to speak up when the man cannot defend himself. He made her a star. She was an unknown actress and desperate for work at the time. He gave her the biggest break of her career. Melissa had no right to judge Michael as he also made her a big star. I have read that Michael had a tragic life himself, please give him the respect he deserves.

Crazy Karen Grassle has dementia. She was madly in love with Michael Landon and she was obsessed with him, but Michael didn't show her any kind of attention like that, so she resented him and she resented all the women that Michael did like. He was a good man. Michael was the only person that would hire her during that time. Nobody else would hire her and she was almost homeless. Also his second wife Lynn was a golddigger. She never worked. He would be working 14 hour shifts getting up at 4:30 in the morning and she would be sleeping in and spending all of Michael's hard earned money in an extravagant lifestyle. So the second marriage was Lynn's fault. Michael finally found his soulmate in Cindy, his third wife. Cindy worked and she was his partner.

@@DebbieJune True. I see alot of that with Bruce Lee as well. Always crummy when imbeciles like Quentin Tarantino and others come out hitting below the belt with antics that are questionable when the stars have passed. Some of it you just have to take with a grain of salt. As none of these stars are saints and we can respect them.for their work without ton of putting them down when they have passed. I think Grassle is a bit bitter but so would anyone who knew they were dealt dirty but didn't get a chance to.speak up when things happened..Rem he would fire folks quickly when he didn't like what you said..That's a big flaw of Micheals and alot of folks who incharge, they feel they shouldn't be corrected or stood up to even if there in the wrong. I think in Grassle case she just feels to get alot of things that bothered her out. And she was saying things in the 90s too not just today btw Just seems more confident to say stuff louder now but their onscreen daughter backs up Grassle..so I believe it's all true

I don't know anything about the personal life of your Uncle but to say Michael Landon was nothing to write home about is just plain wrong. Perhaps you should leave that judgement to those members of HIS family. And if you know anything about him at all, you would know that he was exactly the opposite. TRy watching just the introduction to "Memories with Love and Laughter" - the special they did for him after he passed. Michael Landon was definitely something to write home about - especially to those who lived with him and loved him.

@Dean Samchester... good things can come from major trials (usually mostly for born again believers) but yeah he was creative. Incidentally he was a leftie like my son (left handed) and I did read somewhere they seem to be artistic and creative. I felt very sorry for him. I think he was looking for acceptance and admiration (on account of his rotten past growing up). His father too (who seemed ok at first) must've had a nasty streak for bullying him just as the mother had done for bedwetting. I felt sad and shocked hearing that. No compassion from his parents. God blessed him with a lot of kids. He was a totally amazing actor. In the Bonanza episode "the stillness within" he was perfect.

I love Michael Landon and what he portrays in his TV shows, especially LHOTP and Highway to Heaven, these shows give great examples as to how we should live and love each other. Why after so many years, Ms Karen you are trying to paint him in a bad light, he is not here to defend himself, let him Rest In Peace, we still love him, he holds a special place in our hearts that nothing you, Ms Karen or anyone else, say will change this. The positive messages he taught through his shows, lessons that are relevant today as they ever will be. If we lived like that, our world would be a better place. So Ms Karen, he has done more good to millions who continue to watch his show even today, especially during COVID, very uplifting, the legacy he has left behind is priceless, you also played your role well as an amazing mom, you should be proud of that, we love you until you start messing with the dead. You should have addressed yours issues with him while he was alive, so he could defend himself, it’s your loss, as I would have loved to hear his side of the story, every story has 3 sides, your side, my side and the right side, now 30 years later we are only privy to your side, we don’t appreciate that kind of attack on the dead, let him Rest In Peace, we Love him anyway, he who has no sin, cast the first stone, Michael is in Heaven, do yourself a favour and secure your place there too Ms Karen.

Joann Taylor, not only him but those who would refute what she says. Had it not been for him she would still be living in her car clapped out of her scull, talk about biting the bones the fed you, I have to believe that she is a compulsive lier, because there are countless accounts of her singing Michael's praises after he passed, other than Jesus he is the only other man who came back from the dead, only to abuse her, well I say he must have had a good reason. I always wondered how compared to bonanza their intimate scenes weren't more than a peck on the forehead or cheek, Mike must have been protecting himself because he knew her. Hmmm!!! Never see smoke without fire 🔥🔥🔥. There has to be something she's leaving out for you to carry a grudge for so long even satan would give up, seriously!!!! I have listened to the women from bonanza speak about Mike and none of them said he behaved inappropriately, they spoke of how kind and patient and caring he was, how he would make them feel at ease when they had to do kissing scenes, one lady even joked about how he was a good kisser ☺ which was funny and she laughed, she said he was very business like and even when they weren't filming Michael would be off conducting other business, she said he was always answering calls between takes. This woman accepted the job which means she accepted the wage he was paying how then she wanted to argue about how much she's paid and should be paid, she said she wasn't a great actor, that she'd done some things before but nothing great her words, she said he was gentle with her and helped her, she said he made her feel comfortable in her role, So how 30 years on she wants to help others. Why does she need to help others now when nothing is hidden any more. She should have said what she is saying 45 years ago when women didn't have a voice it would have helped then. But she doesn't want to help anyone but her own self. I hope Mike take every penny she makes from pulling his name through the mud, it disappears in thin air.

I don't know what else you have heard but if you check out the A & E Biography of Headliners video or any of the personal statements from Cameo people who worked with him - posted on my channel or Helane Solomon's youtube channel - or any of the many, many Michael Landon FB pages - you will get the real story of who this man was. For that matter, why don't you read any of Michael Jr.'s current comments about him - or if you check out Shawna Landon's Instagram posts or perhaps his granddaughter Rachel 's(Leslie's daughter) tribute to him ( she magically sang a duet with him of his song Shenandoah) as a birthday present to her mother - These are all family who knew him and loved him but there are hosts of others - the casts and crew that he supported with work - many of them for decades. They would not have worked with him for all these years if he didn't respect them and treat them as equals. Do some research if you are going to state your opinion of a person. He was a human being with his faults for sure, but no question I would have loved to meet this man and call him my friend. ❤

Michael Landon was a great actor, but the whole story should be told so that maybe people could understand his behavior. He had a terrible childhood and his own Mother liked to humiliate him... We tend to idolize / worship or even imagine things about actors / celebs / sports figures, rockers, etc etc that are simply untrue because we fail to really Inquire about the factual Truths concerning EVEryTHING and EVErYONE , often letting emotion run our internal lives. We knew nothing of Landon's reportedly excessive drinking and womanizing apparently .. and making faces and mocking his co star because she asserted herself? That's stooping to juvenile levels and I believe he did those things to bolster his ego // He was likely a very insecure man.

I've always liked Michael Landon as the good actor that he was. I thought of him as a good person. Michael has always said, he wanted to have a family show & to learn something from it. When we saw him on screen, we saw the professional actor, bringing the character to life. But behind the scenes, it was a whole different ballgame. The staff said he was a big jokester & had a "wicked" sense of humor. Then he cheated on his wife Lynn for his then present girlfriend Cindy, NOW, that's what broke my heart. We are all fallible, including Michael Landon & we all mess up. But, the cheating does not sit well with me. Many may ask why Karen Grassle is bringing this information up now, 30 years after Michael's passing? Well, she's writing her memoir. This is part of her truth & what she dealt with on the set. She was given less scenes, just because she asked him for a raise in her pay & then the rude sexual comments & jokes she endured was appalling, especially when they had a love scene, with all the male cameramen watching & laughing. She was afraid that she would lose her job. Many women went through the same thing as Karen did & some still are dealing with this kind of behavior from male coworkers. But, at least Karen Grassle & Melissa Gilbert both saw him before he died & "brought an olive branch" to resolve their issues with him & offer peaceful words to him.

Give a person the power . . . . and see what the person makes of it. There are many people like Michael Landons. People with two faces cannot be recognized immediately and they play their games. That's funny, I thought their names on the show were Charles ingalls and Caroline ingalls. Lol. It's too bad that Michael Landon isn't alive so his side of the story can be heard. Especially, since Karen grassle was well known for being difficult to work with which is why she never had a lot of roles offered to her for other projects. I'm always highly suspicious of people that make allegations against others that are no longer alive to defend themselves. After all, allegations are hardly proof and the presumption of innocence is in fact a guaranteed right in the American Justice system. Frankly, there are always two sides to an argument and it's usually a good idea to remember that.

Can you cite a source regarding it being 'well-known' that Karen Grassle was 'difficult to work with'? I have yet to hear or read of this allegation concerning Ms Grassle until reading your comment this day (13 May 2022).
@dr.fitprofessor1970

@@BP-sk7lp in fact, there was a TV guide article in the early '80s that covered this topic quite thoroughly. Not to mention many other entertainment magazines that also wrote notable articles about the situation on the set of Little House on the prairie. This was actually a common knowledge topic when I was a kid and almost everybody talked about it when the news was made public. Frankly, she was not well liked or appreciated by her colleagues due to her prima Donna attitude and this is also why she did not get a lot of roles after the show concluded.

@@dr.fitprofessor1970 As I stated above, I was not aware of this perception of Ms Grassle. This gap in my knowledge seems somewhat odd, for, although by no means an expert, I am not entirely a novice on matters relating to _Little House on the Prairie._ Thank you for taking the time and effort you took to reply thoughtfully. I shall have to investigate this matter further.

The only person who EVER accused Michael Landon of being a bully - much less a misogynistic one - is Karen Grassle. And she only apparently came to that realization 30 years after he passed and - oh yes - when she was getting ready to release a book. It makes me so angry to think that a person can live his or her whole life as a good and decent person and then many years later a person can come out and then to pad her pocket create a story that besmirches that life's work. And with little to no regard for the consequences. If you check comments that she has made in the past you will see nothing of these kinds of charges in them. Friends, family, co-workers, people who worked under him or with him even briefly have a completely different tale to tell and have been telling that same story for over 30 years. Melissa Gilbert has said many, many times that the values that Pa spoke about and that Michael Landon wrote into his stories were the values that he believed in and practiced himself. While Michael Landon said many times that he was NOT Charles Ingalls, others have disagreed with that evaluation. Yes, he was married to 3 different women but none of us were privy to his private life and we do not know the whys or wherefores of his 2 divorces despite whatever we may have read. Besides which - despite the fact that he played one in his last series, very few people believe that Michael Landon was an angel on this Earth. ( Although I have read comments from people who met him or knew him casually and they have actually described him as just that!!)😇

I think that you should let the dead rest. Not a single one of us is perfect. Michael Landon was a human being with human frailties. He had 7 biological children & 3 adopted children. Their memories of their father are personal & no one should try to dirty those memories.

I sensed something was amiss when the female that played as Mary was callously written out of the show, as I observed little grief from "pa" when she left with her husband for NYC, and then later, in an interview she stated she never watched reruns of LHOP series which indicated she held negative feelings against the series she stared in. I've concluded, having revisited the series many times and listening to costars express their negative feelings against Landon, the lady that played Harriet wouldn't rejoin the cast for the end finale because she said Landon didn't appreciate her contribution to the series, and then when Landon's son, Michael Jr commented his father had little time for his children because he was absorbed in work, and Landon having taken up with the makeup artist, I've concluded Landon was all about image, and he did a fairly good job wearing that mask until the revelations came forth that shattered that image. Landon was a textbook narc, simple as that. He didn't care for women because, in his fractured identity, he dumped all women in with his mother, who gave him the narc injury as a young child when she treated him like $hit. Textbook narc. Handsome, charming, self absorbed and woman hater because of his fractured relationship with mommy.

Talking bad about the deceased is very low-class!! His personal life is just that: *personal!!* So many people on here probably have just as many skeletons in their closets, *or more!* And Karen Grassle's expectation of pay equal to Landon's is ridiculous. He was more experienced, the executive producer and director of the vast majority of the episodes. Victor French and others directed some of the other episodes. But that's like if I had gotten a new job at a grocery store and expected the same pay as the store manager. It's unrealistic - whether the manager is male or female.

Moral of the story, don't idolize anyone. Don't put any celebrity, especially actors on a pedestal. The on screen life, is just that...acting and on screen...make believe. But yet, it's amazing how pretentiousness and acting becomes so lucrative, and real life scenarios, with real people and real situations are looked upon as boring and sent to social workers for help. So backwards....

We are not a monogamous species, yet we still go by social standards that negate this. What was merely obnoxious in the 1970s is horrendously offensive to us today because standards have changed. Our standards of today will be seen likewise 40-50 years hence. Overall, "Landon" (Eugene Horowitz) was a great deal better than most men of his time. The most common "flaws" in human males result from their innate fear of paternal uncertainty, that testosterone hinders oxytocin, a smaller corpus callosum, and that the aggression center is right next to the mating center in their brains.
