I had no idea they used to have a pole to grab mail bags that were hanging along the railroad so they could grab mail without stopping along the way. That is fascinating. I wonder what would happen if they missed the bag. ? And they sorted the mail while traveling down the tracks? Learning a lot about the history of mail delivery. We have been to several train museums and they are always fascinating. I have never traveled by train (except for theme park trains) and would love to experience modern rail travel. Considering booking travel on Amtrak to see what it is like. These museums on the history of trains always make it seem so cool. Thanks for taking us along!

It's pretty amazing that steam engines could generate enough power to move something as heavy as a fully loaded train. Trains were getting robbed so often back in the day that the President ordered U.S. Marines to ride along and that ended the profitability of robbing trains....so criminals started robbing banks instead which led to even more problems. The law of unintended consequences I reckon. Nice video Brian.

@@SomeplaceOrAnother Yes. As a former Marine myself I have learned all about this and it was serious business. The Leathernecks had no sense of humor and if bandits tried to rob a train someone was going to die. www.wearethemighty.com/mighty-history/intense-rules-for-marine-guards/

I've seen so many people suffer with terminal illnesses since then, I'm grateful my farther was spared that sort of suffering.
