We have similar shoes I see. I have the Drehkraft's, which I think are identical to the Perfect Power's in all ways except for the lacing system. Great workout videos Jordan. I'm glad you post this stuff because now I try to emulate what you do when I workout... but with much less weight of course. :)

I'm on my 3rd week of the bridge, really do enjoy the system. I'm trying to use "rpe" but I used the chart to get an "expected" weight. Anyways my problem is the amount of time, I've been thinking of using Alan's example of a 4-day bridge on his pin press video especially since it's focused on the press over the bench. I'm needing to get to an hour or less for my gym time because the day care at the gym doesn't let us use more than an hour a day. Basically, I need to focus on 2 lifts to make it work with maybe an excerise without a warm up like pull ups or chins. On a 4 day should I add some sets to squats since I'll have 1 less squat session? I also feel the bridge is a little less upper body volume since I took your advice on the linaer progression (before the bridge came out) and had been doing a 5x5 on all my pressing movements but maybe a 4 day will fix that. Anyways don't let me take up too much of your time and thank you.

Do you pause on any of your flat bench prrssing or is it always touch and go?
@BarbellMedicine

These were touch n go, but I paused the last rep for fun. I do lots of paused work when training my bench hard.

Is your grip width on bench considered quite narrow? I grip at a similar or same point but I'm 5'7 so likely slightly shorter arms. Does this give you a stronger press from your chest?

Hey jordan what do you think about gymnastic type training? I was thinking of doing gymnastic type training for my upper body and the ss protocol for my legs, wich means not doing the press, bench press and weighted chinup. Your opinion?

I noticed in your other videos that you use mixed grip on deadlifts. Why have you chosen to do so over hook grip? Just curious as I have just started to switched over to hook grip. Wondering if it really even matters.

I did some more research on them and found out they are actually a whole 1/4" smaller in diameter than a standard Olympic plate. They're 438mm vs 450mm standard. Seems like a big difference. Do you know if that's true or not?
@tfranc347

Actually more like 1/2" difference. Seems like that would be significant for pulls

Hey Jordan, great workout so far! Do you think that someone training for general strength and aesthetics (not competing in powerlifting) should prefer low bar squats over high bar anyway?
@s57iotukt55

Being that he is a starting strength coach. He would probably recommend low bar. But really, do whatever feels the best.

What is your take on stretching before lifting? Better to warm up with only the bar and practice the specific movement you're going to do?

I think just using the bar is a better option.

Hey Jordan wanted to ask you whether all you do is basically the 4 main lifts and their variations. You don't do anything else like curls tricep extensions or anything. What's your view on some powerlifters that say that minimal assistance work would cause injuries
@BarbellMedicine
7 жыл бұрын
I don't do any of that stuff and don't think they're very useful. I also think 99.5% of powerlifters have no business commenting on injury rates or pain.
@TheHaiku2
7 жыл бұрын
But, the same hypertrophy could be achieved by just adding volume to the main lifts at a specific intensity. Do barbell curls if you like doing barbell curls, but don't do them because you think they're going to translate into the main lifts. Same goes for any isolation work, including lateral raises and so on.
@BarbellMedicine
7 жыл бұрын
I don't think there are any bad exercises, but I don't think that isolation exercises tend to actually help the competitive lifts more than doing the competitive lifts themselves (or variants).
@Hossak
7 жыл бұрын
One of the issues with isolation exercises is that they have become distorted by people using steroids. For someone taking steroids, a tricep kickback will give you a boost in tricep growth. For the rest of us shlubs, it will do absolutely bugger all in both strength increase or improving your main lifts. I have been doing weightlifting as a hobby now for several years and my conclusions are the same as starting strengths. When you train, train the compound movements such as squat, deadlift, overhead press and dumbell bench press (hate barbell due to elbow issues) as that involves the largest amount of muscle mass and that is what will get a natural lifter to grow and gain strength quickly. Any assistance exercises you do incorporate - once again make sure they activate the most amount of muscle. Pulls ups are great, rack pulls, the lying tricep extension is a monster for tricep development and overhead press, pin overhead presses (alan thrall has put up a great video on this) etc. Good luck! kzitem.info/news/bejne/p6ir2oetqn1mmYY&t=

Is the point of using the pins to take away the stretch reflex? I'm just not seeing the benefit. It's almost as if it gives you a small rest period. I'm dumb though, I know.
@christianyapp-shing3286

John Becker you’re not resting at the bottom, you’re supposed to stay well connected to the bar. Yes, it does take out the stretch reflex, but it also helps you consistently find the right bar path. During squats, If you set the bar too far forward of/behind the mid foot, it would be more difficult to break off of the pins

He's doing pin squats, which is a variation of a normal squat where you pause on the pins on purpose. Check out Alan Thrall's video on them.
