In 2013, I started training for my first marathon at age 51, as a beginning runner. Ten years later, I've run 22 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and three ultras. If I can do it then anyone can because I was not a runner. Go Andy.

I'm also training for my first Marathon, at age 55, next year 14 april at Rotterdam. Amazing that's possible, since I discovered MAF training. Before that I did only 5 to 8k runs in the forest, once, sometimes twice a week, with way too high of a heart rate... For almost 40 years, so it still counts... I'm sure you got this, being able to run this biggest run of your training block. I predict your time will be 2:49.30. Good luck and much fun in Valencia! 👣👌🏽💥

I have always perversely enjoyed the longest training run - the culmination of all of the previous training runs as a final check to have that little confidence boost before the marathon. This year I'm focusing back on half marathons (honestly, my favourite distance) and ticking off more of the Superhalfs. Lisbon in March and Valencia in October, aiming to improve on my 1:45 best and maybe crack 1:40. We'll see!

When I started running in college, I was so excited to cross a marathon off of my bucket list. Unfortunately, the race was cancelled a few weeks before it was scheduled due to COVID. I was devastated and basically gave up running. About a year and a half later, I made the decision to start up again, and ran my first marathon last May. It was really small, but I came in 3rd place. Later on in the year, I was training for my second, where I wanted to run a 3:15. But sadly about a month before the race, I fractured my foot. In the beginning of this year, I was training for another marathon, but fractured my foot again, and was in a boot for four months. When I finally healed, I was able to complete my first half in over a year, running a 1:42 with ease. Now, I have plans to train for a 1:30 by the end of next year. I'm so excited to start using the Runna app. Hopefully, it can help me get there. The journey is hard. It takes so much strength and willpower to complete. Andy, you're doing amazing. You're gonna hit the wall, we all do, but just remember what is waiting for you at the end. You're an Olympian. You got this!
