you can also do this in your living room with treats or if you don't mind playing in the house, tug is good because it keeps dog close so less damage to tv etc or throwing ball down the hall.

Robert it's evident that this dog is Already trained at heel etc. I was a dog trainer before I became disabled. Right now I am training my second service dog and for the life of me I cannot get him to heel. I can use treats, he's not motivated by toys or balls in any way and finally I just had to get them on a gentle leader so he would stop pulling. Also my energy is not up there at all. I'm dealing with a big deficit as I cannot really get involved step by step by step by step it would kill me. I just get frustrated when any dog trainer on KZitem brings out a dog that knows the drill and you don't see much of any problematic issues. So then I'm left with not knowing what to do with this little miniature schnauzer mix I have who is stubborn and extremely playful. it's extremely hard I just have never had a dog that I can't get to heel. I wish you would show more problems in these short videos you do. Thank you very much.

Thanks for your message. I appreciate your concern. please be aware that the videos here on KZitem are bite sized lessons for people to get an idea and a taste of training. My complete lessons are on my site at : robertcabral.com However, there are plenty of lessons here on KZitem that will give you basics in most any situation. Your case is very unique, so I apologize that I have not addressed it directly, but as with anything, patience and perseverance will be your best friend. I'd suggest breaking things down slowly and luring with food. Only feeding this dog during training and you'll make some good improvements.

@@RobertCabralDogs thank you so much Robert for replying to my comment and being understanding and sensitive to my situation. I know that I can pay monthly and get on your training programs on your website. It's something I definitely been considering to go more in depth with things I need to work on. He's doing amazing with some of his service tasks but other things are just so challenging for me and I don't know what to do. so longer videos that show the problems that can arise and how to address them fully would be a big help. Have a great day and thanks again.

Dear Duane is such a good boy. Like you I teach everything at home before training it on the field. Zed started defaulting to a down so now it is everything but a down, even at meal times. Enjoyed the full video on your site.

Thanks Robert I am working on this my dog now, the only difference is that I’m doing it from my wheelchair. The one issue I have is getting him into the correct heel position, his butt tends to be at an angle away from me. I made a shaping box to see if this will help get him get into a better start position. Eddie wheels 😬🧑🏻🦽👍from Nj.

Would a wall or fence work @Robert?, if he looped round the back of you (right to left), he'd be between you & fence/wall so as long as he's not frightened of being between the two (I would hope not) then he'll learn by muscle memory to wall along side without his butt sticking out.

I walk with crutches, and used walls, fences etc. to help a more consistent space. If they stub their toes it may make them nervous and regress a bit, but just be consistent and you’ll get there. 😊

My garden is about 2 or 3 times the size of that garden, planning training my dog every day in the garden. I'm eager to get started. I've only ever trained akitas to a very basic level but I wanna train my girl to the best of her and my ability. Anyone who gets a dog in general should be aware of what their getting into, and plan in advance. Thanks got your videos btw. Subbed.

My yellow lab looks just like yours. Mine might be a tad smaller. Of course yours is much better trained but mine does a decent job. I live on a golf course so I do more off leash walking than on leash. But he loves to retrieve and swim. Will sit and stay on demand but not nearly as tight as yours. My fault of course.

I just wanted to commend you and thank you for your videos. You remind me of Einstein - "If you cannot explain it (to a six year old) simply then you do not understand it." Your teachings and explanations are right on the money: Concise, to the point and can/should be understood by any pet owner or expert handler. I am an Airedale guy and I am always waiting and hoping to see you work and/or help a client with training their Airedale. Well bred Airedales were popular as the all purpose working dog. However, following WWII the Airedale was quickly replaced by the German Shepherd Dog as the best all purpose working dog. For an all purpose working dog it is difficult to beat the German Shepherd Dog. As far as the GSD breed is concerned, it may not be the best protection breed, the best herding breed, the best tracking breed but unlike the top breed dog in these categories the GSD is always near the top in each of those categories. In my honest opinion they stand shoulders above most other breeds of dogs. The Belgium Shepherd Malinois and the Dutch Shepherd recently are surpassing the GSD in protection sport and military use because there a significant number of GSD breeders' stock line have declined in quality. Many of these breeders should not be breeding GSDs. For that reason alone a good number of Schutzhund enthusiasts are have moved away from the GSDs.

Thank you for the videos! I've been training my puppy with your videos since I got him at 12 weeks old. He's doing well in the backyard. My problem is when we are outside. A lot of distractions. His first walk was Nov. 6th. December 14th i sprained my ankle he stayed inside with me (training in the backyard). We've been walking outside for 2 weeks now. I've been trying different environments, but he's scared.

@RobertCabral. We live now in farm land town, which has many strays. This is our 6th month here and we’re housing our second stray. This one is 5mns old. I have a basic understanding of how to train a puppy but this guy is having difficulty with down. I’m working on implementing your instructions but he’s a little slow. I believe it’s due to malnutrition or it could be his breed. Not sure what he is. If he is still having difficulty with understanding down, what is a good next step? We plan to get him to a stable weight, get him fixed, and then find a good home for him. I believe he won’t be the last dog that we do this with. What would you suggest for me to do in order to have these dogs prepared for rehoming? Do I become a dog trainer? Lol Our resources are a bit limited in the way of rescues. BTW, I’m a former animal nurse with a decade of experience. I would appreciate any advice. Thank you for your time. Have a blessed day.

Nope, can do it in the living room with a tug or treats. I watch TV, get them do something, like sit, paw, down & throw ball down the hall, they come back with it & it repeats, good fun with high drives & limited access to outdoor, time or even a limitation in mobility. Obviously my hall is proofed for this so no ornaments/pictures or stuff that can be broken. This is what I do at 'zoomies' time 🤷♀️
