You sir, are without doubt a master of your craft.. With the exception of the ‘detracting third rail’ this layout was awesome and as always the scenics and track laying were a benchmark for us all to aspire. Thank you for taking the time to share.

That is really cool! I love running trains and this video was a great finish to the work done on that layout. I really liked the shots where you had the camera on another track just ahead of the steam locomotive! Well done, Peter!! John

Very nice job on the scenery. Realistic scenery sets the stage beautifully for a nice roster of Pennsylvania and other eastern road equipment to run through. Very cool layout right down to the Pennsylvania position light signals and magnificent sound, smoke and steam effects.

I was never a fan of Lionel "toy trains" but it's amazing what great scenery and a relatively realistic track arrangement can do to change my opinion. Hats off to your talents and creativity, sir.

A big thank you should go to the owner of the layout for showing his beautiful trains and other rolling stock to the rest of us - I must admit that I was more interested in watching the terrain and I'm sure that everyone will agree that you are a true master craftsman when it comes to creating beautiful and very detailed layouts.

This is about the closest to a "Model Railroad" that I've seen a 3-rail O scale railroad. Very nice! So much better than most 3-Rail toy-like setups. Congratulations!

Absolutely amazing, scenery is wonderful as for the trains, wow. I have friends and family over in the states, they all have these huge basements which cry out for a model railway. Yet over here in England we have nothing or you have to be a lottery winner. Mine is large by most standards but still in a cramped roof space, but when you look at those in the states, well we can just dream over here. Still I loved the video, one of the best running sessions I have seen for a long time. Regards Chris

An excellent video.. At 9’40”, the train mounted camera recording a second train on parallel tracks was especially creative.

Great video Peter. Knowing I would never have space and now firmly entrenched in HO, I was never much interested in O scale, but...that was pretty cool!!! Thanks for sharing.

Very nice. Cool to see a layout that's not shoulder height. I mean I get why modelers do it, but I prefer a lower arrangement such as this.

that does look great. you do some nice work sir. I really like the end part of the layout where it wraps around and comes back, the way you have thet done, you can't even tell it is just a middle divider. the scene just flows.

Peter, that’s so great you had time for a running session. Great production on that, too. There’s something about larger scales that make videography more realistic. Probably the sheer weight of them, the gravity of the locos and cars. The client was super pleased I think. The layout is beautiful. Were those MTH, Lionel, both or neither? I know that there are only so many manufacturers of three rail O gauge. Anyways, great stuff. I am happy you had the extra time. See ya next time.

Thanks! The motive power is a mix of Lionel and Atlas. MTH runs on a different command system and even though you can run different command systems through the same track I don't want to go through the hassle of having to learn how to use a completely different remote. The rolling stock is an even mix of Lionel, MTH, Atlas and Weaver.

Wow that's a pretty serious layout. Those O scale locos have space for some good/multiple speakers and it shows.

If they started smoking in their current state I think it would be a bad thing. Otherwise it would add a degree of realism to smaller gauges.

Why do Lionel or larger scale tracks have to have middle track? Doesn't seem prototypical? Can't the locomotives be made different?
@mpeterll
3 жыл бұрын
Historically, the very first model trains were 3-rail, to provide a return path for the electrons without having to isolate the two running rails from each other. After a few years, modelers figured out how to do it with just two rails. Some manufacturers (such as Lionel) never embraced the "new" technology, choosing backward-compatibility with earlier products over improved realism. It's simply a business choice, and with the large number of people who buy their products despite the third rail, I'm not going to fault them for it. To answer your questions though: Yes it hurts the realism. Yes they could be made differently so as to run without the center rail.

That's for his stereo system. O-scale locomotives have plenty of space for good speakers and don't need supplements.
