A very enjoyable mornings session spent at Earlsfield station on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway.
Earlsfield was built and opened by the London and South Western Railway in 1884, the station was named after a now demolished large Victorian residence, the house was owned by the Davis family who also owned the land that the station and railway would pass through. So the reason why the station was named after the house was because when the family agreed to sell it for the railway one of the conditions was that the station be named after the house.
In 2012 Network Rail put into place a £5.6 million scheme which would see the main entrance to the station reconstructed and new lifts installed onto both platforms which would allow for greater access to disabled passengers.
Last year the station took 6.5 million passengers.
My next station is Clapham Junction.
