Filmed on 11/06/2016. (Season 3 Episode 34) Arrives into the heart of the North East, welcome to Newcastle station.
A fully action packed day see's a variety of Virgin Trains EC, Arriva Rail North, Cross Country Trains and First Transpennine Express heading for a range of destinations including: Carlisle, Metrocentre, London Kings Cross, Plymouth, Glasgow Central, Liverpool Lime Street, Nunthorpe and may more.
The main reason why we went to Newcastle station is LNER's 60103 Flying Scotsman is running another rail tour. Flying Scotsman is working 1Z42 Tynesider from Cleethorpes to Morpeth via the East Coast Mainline. The surprise is Flying Scotsman was only running 3 minutes late, maybe the trespassers have learnt no to go onto the tracks.
A rare sighting as we see Grand Central HST arriving into Newcastle station with a service from just south of Sunderland. Then we see the HST presumably heading for Heaton Depot.
We think Arriva Rail North will need to add additional coaches to their Hexham to Nunthorpe and Newcastle to Carlisle services as we see trains working to these destinations over crowded. Message to Arriva Rail North, additional coaches required
There is good news for the people of North East, Arriva Rail North are scrapping their pacers by 2019/2020 which means the much better looking and much faster class 158's will be transferred to the North East. So, won't be long before we see the only Northern units of 156/158's.
We got talking to a train enthusiast who started trainspotting back in the 1950's. He explained how Newcastle station has changed like there used to be a third passing track avoiding the platforms and there is what used to be a water tower at the station.
He read an artical of a Railway Magazine and First Transpennine Express are making plans from 2018 of operating local hauled services. This will be a massive benefit for everyone travelling towards the Manchester area with loads more seating available. It's looking brilliant for everybody.
A brilliant day at Newcastle station and defiantly a station I recommend filming at. Just check the real train info for the best day to film at Newcastle as there is a high chance of seeing freight trains passing.
