Just a little tip: Use the frying pan (clean) as a lid when boiling water, you will save a good deal time and fuel this way :) Smashing video and a beautiful part of the world! Thanks

An additional tip. Rub olive oil on the simmer o-ring to preserve the rubber. I've the same kit as you (plus their orange wind shield), have used in excess 80 times and still works perfectly. I even have the plastic cover for the frying pan too. I rub oil on the plastic so that it stays in place during transit but also preps the pan for use. Personally I use a small wooden spoon so not to scratch the non-stick pan. Finally as a drop of water, roughly 1:10 to meths. Increases burn time a little but importantly reduces blackening of your pan. Great video though. Which moors are these? Might be worth a trek to sometime.

Nice test, particularly that you used it in the natural environment and you showed the use of the frying pan. I'm very happy with my Trangia mini, have used it on several camping trips, the only trouble is that it needs protection from the wind, but you can't have everything. You can also use the frying pan as a cap for the aluminium pan to help it cook a bit quicker.

its a good stove, but the cookset i tend to use now, prob weighs in total, what the trangia burner does!! If you are burning food in yr pot,whilst cooking, maybe look at a pot cosy for yr pot? So what you do is, boil the water in the pot as usual, add yr dehydrated meal to the water, turn off the gas, putt the pot in its cosy, leave for anything 10-30 mins (it will stay warm) stir occasionally and bingo..one cooked dinner! saves gas as well. dead easy to make as well, plenty of vids on youtube of how too as well...ATB WJ

not silly at all!, i use 2, depending on length of time im out, i got a plastic bottle bout 200 ml , with an O ring in cap for dayhiking or a simple overnighter, , i do believe it was an old shampoo bottle of the wifes. if its longer i use the trangia fuel bottle, a bit of an overkill but i like the security of it with larger volumes of fuel

@TheAnon26

Bit late, but gel fuel doesnt really work that well for these. I mean, itll burn and heat your food, but you might as well just use a shallow, fireproof dish over a trangia at that point. Trangia burners have a wick in them that sucks up fuel, evaporates it and allows those small jets at the top to give a very even, hot flame. But with a gel, they cant absorb your fuel and do nothing at all aside from adding weight and volume. At that point, might as well just cut open a can and use its bottom as a burner.

@WanderingJay

hello, depends on the fuel u use, meths can vary in its water content, so some sooting occurs, but ive switched to bio -ethenal, which is purer so tends not to soot

Hi there great vid! I have a question. I plan to camp out in the wilderness for 5 nights. Cooking at least twice a day, boiling water to make coffee or instant noodles. How much ml of alcohol do you reckon I should bring?
@WanderingJay

i would take a litre for that amount of time, the trangia is a bit thirsty when compared to other meth stoves and id rather take a bit more fuel than i need than run out. hope you have fun on yr adventure!!

Hi! I enjoyed your video. I just purchased one and was curious to know it’s potential. I haven’t found a proper container to transport the fuel like yours. V Can you recommend what to look for - I suppose the plastic mustn’t react with the fuel and must seal properly? Thank you.

@WanderingJay
6 жыл бұрын
yes, very prone to wind, i had to get a wind shield for it, even then bit much, this stove had been resigned to my day hike kit, the prone to wind also increases fuel consumption, but it still makes the best sausage and bacon sarnies on dartmoor!

Wandering Jay what would you use on a multiday trip? The 27? Or something more like the msr pocket rocket? I grew up using my parents' trangia but now that I'm 'grown up' I want to buy my own stove and can't decide between the two. The American KZitemrs never mention Trangia, they all prefer the pocket rocket, but I've never used one before and don't know which it makes more sense to buy. They weigh and cost about the same.
@WanderingJay
6 жыл бұрын
hello. id never use a trangia these days for multi day use, the fuel consumption is just too high, these days i use a stormin cone and stove system, similiar to the caldera cones in the US, also switched from methelyted spirits to bio ethanal as well as its better. these systems rely on u matching the pot to the cone tho,so u have to do some research. the pocket rocket is a gas stove, uses canisters, and is a v good stove, the latest one the PR 2 combines the PK and microrocket, a v good stove and is perfect for multday use. hope this is helpful, any questions, free to ask :)

i do prefer the trangia 27 but i wouldnt use it for just freeze dried meals i use the toaks siphoon meths burner which is great but the mini trangia i think is rubbish esp compared to the trangia 27 with the addition of a non stick frypan its great on the meths and now trangia have reintroduced the duosteel pots with those you can bake and smoke fish
@barefootfiona

Wonderfully helpful, thank you! Never heard of the Stormin cone/stove system but I'll look into it for sure. PR appeals to me more now with your comment - although I do believe in "if it ain't broke don't fix it", I am starting to accept that tough as a Trangia is, there may have been some advances in stove design in the last twenty years or so ;)
