A rail masterpiece which signifies an age of speed and glamour. I was lucky enough to ride on this train from Amsterdam to Munich, though pulled by s class 103 loco but was a fabulous journey which only had one fault, my ex fiancé was with me who didn’t enjoy the journey

Great photoshow. In denmark we had a smaller version of this train from the late 60's to the late 80's. Basically one of these cut in half. They were all-red and called "ligthning trains". Later they were repainted in an silver livery, and nicknamed "The silver-arrows". I think some of them were sold are still running today almost 50 years later. I remember that these trains always caught a small audience at the platforms when they were at a station.

Ästhetik in Reinkultur!!!

Given that the Kraftwerk album "Trans Europe Express" was created in *1977*, I daresay that the Final Fantasy 6 intro music, if anything, borrowed from this one, rather than the other way round.

@PrekiFromPoland Yes, this stock was Deutsche Bundesbahn's historic VT 11.5 unit using the power cars 601 014-4 and 601 019-3. It quit running passenger charters in 1999 and sadly later on went into inoperable status.

i must say that i had a little train book, very old one and i much prefered the really old diesels, they look really shiny and almost mystical the way they were shaped, todays diesels seem dirty and boring - still ok to look at and watch, but the early diesels were like steam locos except without the steam but with the plating and heavy duty metal used

@BF6ct Probably not. After relegating one stock of VT 11.5´s into operable status was aborted in 2005 due to rising costs most cars and spare parts were scrapped by Deutsche Bahn rail museum - just a scandal ! Only one and a half stocks and a single power car are left in static exhibits today.

@jolf1245
