I took my DrivePro 220 out for the first time today and thought it was absolutely brilliant. You mentioned that it might not be a good idea activating the GPS to record your speed in case it is found out that you were speeding. In my experience today, I found having the Dashcam fitted AND the GPS switched on actually made me a more Safety conscious driver because I KNEW my speed was being recorded ! So I actually think it's a good thing to record your speed. :)

Just checking out dashcams now as I think I need one. One thing concerns me and that's the lack of detail, even thou this is HD footage. Even at a relatively close distance (say when a car passes you with the motorway footage) I couldn't read their number plate so clearly. Is that youtube compression worsening the quality or can you read the number plates on the original footage? Kind of important if someone speeds past you and carries out an offence up ahead of you, you'll want to be able to get their plates. Overall it makes me think I'll need a 4k dashcam (not sure if they even exist), but they would have their own problems with overheating... Hmm

Anyway to switch off the GPS so noway to get my speed stamped on video ?

Hi, you can turn off the GPS and speed so it won't record on the MP4 video file. You can however see your speed and location if you use the Transcend software on your computer as there is another data file that records this info. So 2 files per video recording.

Few Questions. 1. Plugin the 220 Unit to Cigarate Car Adapter continuously when the car is switched off is it harmful for the Transcend device? 2. Since 220 comes with a battery continuous plugin will be get effect to 220 Unit battery? 3. For what we can use GPS feature? I mean what is the purpose it comes with in built?

Planning to upgrade from DrivePro 200. Just wondering if the audio quality has improved in 220. The DP200 audio is terrible you can hardly hear your own voice during playback (maxxed out). Video quality is great tho... but i want louder audio pickup.

The impact detection would work better if it logged/locked violent vibrations but only actually locked the file if the impact was shortly followed by zero movement which it would be reasonable to assume that the car was then stopped as you would in an accident.... Your welcome Transcend.
@GadgetAddict

Yeah that's true. I mean I guess it's also for sudden stops rather than just impact. But it's really just too sensitive. Like you say, they need to try do some kinda smart analysis before it's a useful feature. I like your suggestion :)

I agree, can you read the no., plates with the Drive Pro because you certainly can't with the camera you were using. I would like to see the footage from the Drive Pro because it's not a true example!

+Marilyn Carpenter At the 9 minute mark you can see footage from the drivepro during day and night. I also uploaded a separate video with just footage from the dashcam :) During the day you can read plates.

What happens when it runs out of space in the SD Card? Does it keep recording and delete older footage like other dashcams? good review thanks!
@GadgetAddict
8 жыл бұрын
That's exactly right. As soon as the card is full, it will start overwriting the oldest footage. Any files locked by the g-sensor or by you pressing the red button will be kept safe and won't be overwritten.

It's one thing to think it's better installed ... it's yet another if you aren't able to fit it yourself. Actually, I just discovered a UK retailer who will fit the cam for £30; well worth the fitting, I'd say.

I would like to point out that your camera is positioned illegally and it is an offence to have the screen on whilst the car is moving. If you take your car in for an mot you would fail as the camera is more than 40mm into zone b ( the swept area). The best position is between the mirror and screen or to the left of the mirror as high as possible.

The footage from the DrivePro 220 is terrible! Whats the camera you were using in your car to show the camera operating? The one before you showed the actual camera footage? Because the other camera you were using was brilliant!
@GadgetAddict

+WednesfieldFCLadies The camera I used inside the car is a Canon HF G30 but that's a pretty expensive camera. Although checking Amazon just now I can see the price has plummeted recently, I guess because of the launch of the HF G40. I guess if you're just looking for footage to use in the case of an accident, the drivepro is fine, but if you want footage to use for a professional / semi-professional video then you have to splash the cash on a "real" camera instead of a dash cam :)

+Gadget Addict - Techmoan (here on KZitem) mentions in his footage videos that the KZitem Codecs during upload make the DrivePro videos look a lot worse than they actually are. I used my 220 for the first time today and on my computer, at Full HD I was really pleased with the results. Also, it might be worth checking that you mounted your mount securely to the glass and tightened things down securely - again, on Techmoan, he mentioned the suction type of mount increases the vibration in the video (I know you didn't use a suction mount, just saying how important these areas of the dashcam are).
@GadgetAddict
8 жыл бұрын
Jez2008UK Every dashcam I've ever had was stuck to the windscreen using a 3M tape. I probably wouldn't bother with a suction type one because they often fall off at some point or another and I have a tint on my windscreen. But you're right and he's right about KZitem re-encoding videos. Of course to some degree it depends on the software you used to edit and export the clips but generally they're sharper and more detailed in the original copy than what you see on KZitem. Although I've watched the original clips side by side with YT and there's really not that much of a difference.

+michael salazar I can't remember if it's possible to turn off the GPS but it's certainly possible to disable the overlay on the video so it won't show there. It's also possible to change it from GPS to GLONASS which is meant for Russia and I assume wouldn't give you a signal in the UK.
