I bought a tDCS device and I've been using it for 2 weeks (every day). It works for me. Better mood, lots more motion. The only thing I still have (altho it's reduced) is some ruminating.

So how long have you been using it? And you still get very depressed? I just got mine but scared to use it. Not sure about the placements and afraid to place in the wrong place.

It's good to know that tDCS is helpful, I don't think it's a solution for TRD or hard to treat depression but it's a tool that can help. I appreciate the comment and if you haven't yet please subscribe to the channel and spread the word about what we are doing here

I use the brain driver tdcs v2.1 as well and have for almost 2 years now. If I don't use it daily, my treatment resistant depression creeps back in, but if I'm diligent, it works wonders! I haven't been medicated for years after being medicated for decades. I paid roughly $125 on Amazon, and I won't hesitate to purchase another if I ever need one, but my 2 year old device still works great!

The world of medical devices is growing fast. This is one of the newer options. If I had to choose, I would opt for TMS over this device with the larger body of evidence supporting TMS treatment. Appreciate the support as always

Thank you very much for this explanation. Why do you think tDCS might not be beneficial for people who suffer from treatment-resistant depression.?

Cool sign in the back! you should keep it. Was there any data about its use in bipolar depression and its effectiveness and/or risk of flipping to mania? It would be really cool if you covered light box therapy sometime especially as we are in the dark now in the northern hemisphere! Keep up the great work!

We can do a video on light therapy, and I will do a video on the latest treatments for bipolar depression. Some of the newer medications lumateperone and cariprazine are showing some promise. It may be surprising but good old quetiapine continues to have good data supporting its use in bipolar depression. I also like the three L’s lithium, lamotrigine, and lurasidone for bipolar depression. More to come appreciate the comment

@@ShrinksInSneakers im very glad that old quetiapine works well. The other drugs of cariprazine and lumateperone aren't available in my country. Thanks and Wish me good luck with seroquel.

🤔 The fatigue I'm guessing may stem from the mind finally resting (sort of like the first time taking stimulants for ADHD and falling asleep). I keep seeing depression linked to this device and curious if it's also helpful for CPTSD/PTSD and/or ADHD 🤔 Thanks so much for the video and info 💯 Wouldn't doubt if the mixed data issues are stemming from noting the placements of the device and the objectives for using it; depression, memory, attention deficit, trauma, etc.

I haven't kept up with novel/emerging treatments as well as I used to, so this is the first I've heard of tDCS. It sounds like a watered down TENS device (though a TENS should never be used above the neck, of course). I can see how it would be beneficial for some, and personally I would be more open to trying it than TMS, primarily because it can be done at home. You said you envision it as an alternative to medication, but is there any data on using it in combination with pharmacotherapy?
@ShrinksInSneakers
2 жыл бұрын
It can be used in combination with medication. The data on this device is still limited and not very good. Large, randomized trials are need and then head-to-head trials would come later comparing it against medication or other therapies. For now, I see its value as an alternative for patients who cannot tolerate medication or want to use it as an adjunctive therapy to standard psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy. More data will emerge over time but this meta-analysis indicates the efficacy is slightly better than standard medications for depression. Hope this helps, appreciate the comment

Hey Doc I really like your opinion about something, I live in Australia 35 Male Single work full time as a bread baker I currently take Cymbalta for depression and anxiety and Seroquel for schizophrenia just lately been feeling a little anxious and having been sleeping the best, I was thinking of asking my doctor for a prescription of Valium, do you think this is a good idea with the medication I’m on? I have had it before for traumatic events and it helped a lot, I’d really like your opinion on this doc, thank you

@ShrinksInSneakers

Hi Jim, With schizophrenia there is some evidence that antidepressant do not help even with depressive symptoms. If I were looking at a case like this I would consider tampering off the cymbalta and optimizing the seroquel as a starting point. Benzodiazepines are not contraindicated but I'm personally not a big fan of using them unless it's short term. I might consider things like trazodone, mirtazapine, or doxapin. Other options include lemborexant, suvorexant, ramelteon all of which could be good options outside of adding Benzodiazepines. Hope this helps, please subscribe to the channel if you have not already, and spread the word about what we are doing here
