Omg! This video really is a result of you reading my mind! I have a closet (not a box- but a CLOSET) full of vhs tapes, Kodachrome reels, super 8mm, etc of 70+ years of family beach trips, holidays that I can NOW watch whenever I want to! Thank you 🙏 Thank you 🙏 Thank you Connie Knox!!!!! You are awesome! As always!

Thank you for this, Connie! It's much safer than sending out the VHS and C-VHS to companies, and great tips on the editing process.

Thanks very much for this! I am using the Elgato to capture video and audio from Betamax tapes. I was able to score a Sony SL-2710 in very good condition for about $200. Insane as this piece of equipment apparently sold for $1300 retail in 1984 😮 That was a lot of money back then! Thanks again for your tutorial as this helped me out a lot!

@@GenealogyTV Yes I was especially lucky because the gentleman was selling it as is because he didn't have a Betamax tape to test it. He said it powered on and that was the only operation he could confirm. Luckily, I had a sealed TDK Super Avilyn tape that had been sitting in a drawer for years. I popped it in and recorded a clip from an old non copy protected DVD of mine and it worked flawlessly. I was amazed at the quality even at the slowest speed (Beta III). It is even better than VHS! Though probably not as good as Super VHS.

Just be careful with those old tapes, they get brittle over time.
This is great. Thank you. I’ve often wondered how to do this. Another great thing to add to my to do list.

This is so helpful if you still have a working DVD player which sadly I do not have. Alternative is to pay someone to do it for me at a photo shop. You're quite the high tech wizard Connie.

Yes you can if you have a working camera and the video jacks on the camera (which are usually either RCA, SVHS, or HDMI jacks. Then you can play from the camera through the cam link to your computer.

And you can make copies on disks?
@GenealogyTV
2 жыл бұрын
If you have a disc writer. You can buy a USB outboard CD writer/reader. The only way I know how to do it is to transfer to your computer and then write it to a disc. You would also have to make sure that you have read/write discs. Make sure you’re clear on the technology. Some of these will not play on something like a Blueray player. I’m not an expert at the CD Techonologies.

@@karenmaier477 you can save yourself a load of money and easily do this by getting a Yizhet USB Video Capture Card, VHS To DVD Converter. The included software will burn the DVD, which realistically is the most suitable format for a VHS copy. Presumably you have a DVD burner and disks already.

@@GenealogyTV CD means compact disk. Typically you'd use this for music, although you wouldn't want to there are ways you could use it. holds 650 mb of data. DVD - digital versatile disc This is what almost everyone has access to gives 720p resolution. Holds 4.5gb on a single layer or 9gb dual layer. Blu-Ray - different colour lazer and now it can do 1080p - 25gb on single layer, dual layer doubles that. UHD Blu-Ray - sometimes still refer to as just Blu Ray but they do 4k and typically hold around 100gb

Sorry, but don't waste money in Elgato Capture, is a crappy video card capture. I bought one Elgato Capture, I though it was a decent capture card, but the performance is awfull.
