I’m not a UK resident or citizen and not living in the UK and unfortunately cannot travel any longer so not returning to the UK. I currently have a UK bank account from having worked there for a number of years. Apparently they can close my bank account if I’m not living in the UK. I have my UK pension paid into this bank account and have been accessing this with my debit card where I am now living. Can this pension be paid into a wise account and for me to access it through my local bank account or a debit card?

Wise is Not wise. They just have lots of money to open 100 bank accounts
@TheSchoolOfStoics
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, yes you can. To do this you would create a Wise account and open two currency accounts, one in your local currency and one in GBP. You would then update the bank details on your pension to your new GBP currency account in Wise. Then you could either cover the money to your local currency and send it to your local bank account - or you can get a Wise debit card and spend the GBP anywhere you go, the Wise debit card automatically converts to the currency in the country you’re in at the live exchange rate so both methods would be as cheap as another. Hope that helps and let me know how you get on 🙌

Thanks for the swift response, not to mention the video. You're the only person to have clarified my query. If you do it that way, will the mid-market rate and exchange fees be applied in the same way? Is sending money abroad the main purpose of holding different currencies, then? I'm just wondering why many travelers seem to hold multiple currencies.
@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marjath, do you know if the customers who are holding different currencies are using a Wise account? I believe they are doing this because their cards do not have the capacity to automatically convert between currencies without holding the actual currency they're converting in. And with respect to your first question, yes the mid-market rate and exchange fees are being applied when you use you Wise card. Hope that helps but if not then feel free to message again 🙌

Hello, For Wise account holders, what happens to their account when they die? How do their beneficiaries claim their account? With banks in the U.S. the account holder can designate "POD name of beneficiary" (POD means "pay on death" to my beneficiary named in my account) and the beneficiary can just present the account holder's death certificate to the bank to claim the money from the account. Don't need to go to Court. How do you deal with this with Wise account? Thank you so much.

Is it only to transfer money or can be used as a business bank account to keep money?
@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, Wise can be also be used as a business account and it has much more features than an ordinary business account which are easy to use. You can keep money in multiple currencies (allowing you to hedge your bets against currency fluctuations). You can also have the option of opening different savings jars/pots. By the click of a button you can put spare cash in an investment fund and let it grow (which can be withdrawn within 24 hours if needed). You’re also able to create digital cards (these can be used as one off cards incase you’re making a payment to an untrusted site/supplier and you don’t want them to have your permanent details). You’re able to pay 1,000s of employees by the click of a button. You’re also able to create a team within your account and assign different access to the account which is useful if your business grows and you have less money. I can go on and on but I think you get the picture haha. All the best with your business! 🙏

So many questions due to big frustration.
@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Krystof, Wise sometimes introduces smaller limits on certain accounts, Im not sure why but it could be due to credit scores and other data. As you can imagine it would be very easy to launder money or execute scams if you could create an account and move $250k in one day, so I know they increase the limit the more Wise is used as it builds up a picture of who you are. Before doing anything, I would give them a call, explain your situation and ask them if they can increase your limits or how long it would take. Their customer service team is extremely helpful and usually very quick to answer questions over the phone. Let me know how this goes 👍

When sending money via your bank to wise how does the fee work? Does the 61p in your case in this video come out your bank at a later date or is that fee all included in the payment like at the start of the video?
@TheHolisticHustle

Hi Jack, The 61p in my case is included in the fee that you send to Wise, it doesn't come out of the bank you use to send the money to Wise. It's free to send money to Wise using your local bank account but Wise charges a small fee per transaction, hence the 61p added onto the transfer. Hope that helps, if not then feel free to ask any other questions, until then, good luck with everything 🙌

Hey Ray, this is the beauty of TransferWise. Services that work with a recipients email, like PayPal for instance only work because the recipient has to sign up to the service at some point before receiving the money and link their account details with their email. Wise, on the other hand, doesn't require the recipient to be signed up with Wise. Only the person sending money needs to register an account. With Wise, you can send money to anyone on the planet as long as you know their details such as account number etc. For example, if you're a business owner you can create automated monthly payments to your whole workforce without them needing an account and so on. Hope that helps, feel free to ask more questions and good luck with your business for now 🙌

Hey Kristine, This could be down to a couple of things, the first being the link isn't recognising you as a new client and the second could be because your transfer is over the limit, in which case you would still be utilising some discount. The transfer limit for the free payment is $500, so anything above this then you'll be paying some of the 0.5% fee. If I'm not sure how much you're trying to transfer so let's test the link too. When you first clicked on the link, did the landing page say something along the lines of 'Your next payment is free up to £500'? If you can't remember then try opening an incognito tab (if using Chrome), or simply try a new browser. Hope this helps, if not,then please write back and I'll respond as soon as I can 👍

@TheHolisticHustle

Hey there, see the details below: 1. Once they start creating the transfer, they will see the short list of information they need. For US I believe it’s full name and routing number. 2. They set the payment up in Wise from Wise to your US bank account. Then Wise asks them to send the money to Wise. Once they send the money from their account to their Wise account, Wise will then do the exchange and send the money to your bank account. Hope that’s clear. 3. It should take around 3 days but it could be quicker. Once you setup the transfer you’ll see a progress bar which tracks it.

My girlfriend was injured while in Poland. Would the Wise card be a good way to pay the hospital bill there in Poland? What about purchasing her airplane tickets to travel from Poland back to the USA?
@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
The answer to this is very subjective and depends on loads of other factors but I’m summary yes you’d be better off paying with a Wise card than a Visa. With regards to the airplane tickets then it doesn’t make much of a difference if you’re using websites like SkyScanner which take different currencies. In summary the Wise card is great and efficient when exchanging currencies but if those recipients already take the local currency and you have local currency then it doesn’t make much of a difference.

@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Elodie, yes if you want to pay someone in USD you simply perform a ZAR to USD transfer (in this scenario there's nothing to setup other than your account). If you want to receive USD, then once you setup your account you simply need to click on the 'open balance' button on the homepage. It will show you a list of currencies and you'll need to select USD. This will essentially provide you with US bank details to which you will give to whoever is paying you in USD. The money will sit in this jar / balance and you can use it as and when you want to. You can also transfer it back to your South American bank by converting it to ZAR. I hope that helps, if not then please let me know if you have further questions 😊

Hey Roy, Yes you can! Use the link in this videos description and you should be able to open a normal account with a free £500 transfer. Once you create an account (which is a very simple step by step process) you’ll be able to see a section called ‘currency accounts’, and you just need to simply click on the currency which you’d like to open an account for (in your case USD), you’ll then receive US bank details. The whole process will take you around 5 seconds, it’s ridiculously simple. Hope that helps and let me know if you need anything else 🙌

When I set up my personal account they asked me to transfer $20 to my Wise account which I did. so do I have to transfer money from my bank account to my wise account before transferring on to the seller or can I now just directly transfer without the Wise bank intermediary?

Hi David, Simply creating an account with Wise, but still transferring money directly from your bank to someone using another currency will incur bank charges and not a great exchange rate. To use Wise you need to create the transfer using Wise and then send Wise the money as I've demonstrated in the video. Hope that helps 👍

Hello and thanks for the useful video. I am intending to open an account with balances in two currencies (Pounds and Euros), so that I can change from one currency to the other when the exchange rate is favourable. Do you know whether one is obliged to declare this transactions to the Tax people? Is there a minimum amount that one can gain without declaring it? How can one know whether a financial gain has been made? I am not very mathematically oriented. Thanks a lot!
@TheHolisticHustle

Hey there, declaring the funds is completely dependant on what the funds are for. If you’re selling products and generating a revenue then yes, otherwise most likely not. You can make £1k per year in the UK without having to declare it and you’ll know whether a financial gain has been made once you have generated more income than your costs. Hope that helps and good luck with business 🙌

Hey Julia, Amazon will pay you out in the currency of the bank you have setup for that particular Amazon marketplace. For example, if you’re selling in the US but use Canadian bank details then they will collect the money in USD, convert it into CAD before sending it to you. You should in that case setup your Wise account as Canada and then open a US currency account with Wise and use the US local bank details. You will then either be able to spend the USD or convert it with Wise. Amazons exchange rate from USD to CAD will be much worse than Wise exchanging the money. Hope that helps and good luck!

Hey there, it depends on which type of account you have. If you have opened a USD 'balance' which is essentially a US bank account then you can just send money from your balance to the US account details where you want to receive the money. If you've just opened a normal TransferWise account without opening a balance then you won't actually be holding any money with TransferWise, you'll just use them as a mediator to wire money. Hope that helps. If not, please let me know and I'll try to explain it another way 😊

Can you transfer money back and forth? For example, transferring US dollar to MXN peso, and then transferring MXN peso back to US dollar? How would that work and how much would it cost to do that?
@TheHolisticHustle
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Angela, there's a couple of ways you can do this with transferwise. The first (and recommended way) being that you can open 'balances' within your account, each time you open a balance with a different currency you'll get your own bank details for that currency. In your scenario, you can open a balance for USD and MXN and get paid directly into the two separate accounts, it's free to get paid into those accounts but if you wanted to move money between the two accounts then you'll get charged around 0.5%, so moving $1000 would cost around $5. The second way you can do that is to hold just one account with transferwise which will be in the currency you set up your account in (I'm guessing USD). In this case, the person who is sending you MXN will be sending the MXN to a USD account so they will need their own way (which could also be transferwise) to convert their MXN into USD for you to receive the money otherwise they'll just be sending MXN to a USD account which I don't think it's possible so it'll bounce. I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any further questions or if that wasn't clear 🙌
