The global climate-ecosystem-biodiversity crisis is the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced. Despite significant increases in renewable energy and other positive steps, last year saw the largest 12-month increase in atmospheric carbon ever recorded. Record levels of carbon were also measured in the atmosphere. Rising temperatures are also activating-and
are activated by-accelerating degradation of ecological systems and loss of biodiversity worldwide. The result is a global climate-ecosystem-biodiversity crisis. Studies have found that, literally everywhere, the accelerating traumatic stresses, emergencies, and disasters generated by the current temperature increases and ecological breakdowns are causing significant mental health and psychosocial problems. These troubles are affecting childhood and adolescent development, incomes and livelihoods, the availability of food, water, and shelter, human health, public safety, social services, and much more. Left unaddressed, as temperatures heat up, far greater individual and collective difficulties will occur.
During the October 1 webinar you will learn:
Why it is essential now--and possible--to prepare everyone for the physical, social, psychological, emotional, and behavioral impacts speeding their way due to the climate-ecosystem-biodiversity crisis.
How actively engaging local residents in identifying and strengthening existing protective factors, and forming additional ones, is vital to prepare them for the traumatic stresses, emergencies, and disasters speeding their way and allow them to remain healthy and resilient as they regenerate their community.
Why the most effective way to accomplish this is to form “Transformational Resilience Coordinating Networks” (TRCNs) in neighborhoods and communities that use a public health approach to build population-level mental wellness and transformational resilience.
Why building mental wellness and transformational resilience must now be fully integrated into efforts to slash the use of fossil fuels and other greenhouse gasses, strengthen external physical resilience, and continually adapt to climate impacts.
How you and your organization can participate in the ITRC Race to Resilience initiative to help form, grow, and “Commission” Transformational Resilience Coordinating Networks (TRCNs) in neighborhoods and communities throughout the U.S. and worldwide to accomplish these goals.
The TRCN “Commissioning” initiative is what led the ITRC to become a partner of the UN Climate Change High Level Champion Race to Resilience Campaign. To learn more, go to www.ctipp.org/presson/trcn.
