The nice lady at the quilt show told me to use a top stitching needle- the eye is larger, so it might work for your thread. You are SO brave cutting apart that cover! Love the fabric cover.

The larger eye needle is great advice and can I add that it is better to use a regular thread in the bobbin and the metallic thread in the needle.

I was so excited to see the gold thread on the Journal. I use to laugh at those thread “helpers”. You stick this triangle shaped skinny wire through the eye of the needle, put your thread in one end of the triangle and pull it back out the way you put it in the eye. It pulls the thread through the eye, easy peasy! Long explanation. I can’t wait to see everything you learn!! ♥️♥️♥️ Your Journal is all ready and waiting. Oh, and I don’t laugh at them anymore. I’m old and my eyes appreciate any help they can get. Lol

You can try filling your bobbin with your special thread ...thread your machine with your regular thread and sew your cover top side down...this is how I use specialty threads....I love your new art room!😀

Dear Barbara, l already thought you had so so many journals until today when l realised that some of your shelves are two journals deep 😮😮😮. That is so impressive. Isn’t it great that you get so much beauty from repurposing the packages you have. I love this aspect of Junk Journalling and find it to be quite validating. Can’t wait to see what you make at the festival. Have a beautiful day, Barbara 🇦🇺

Soft spines are wonderful as are covers that wrap. I am using a drop sheet made of canvas which is very cheap from a general store, in New Zealand, called "The Warehouse". A drop sheet is what interior painters put down to cover floors when they are painting ceilings and walls. You can print on it, sew cloth onto it and paint on it too so it is very versatile. The edges fray as well. I love your ideas for covers and ephemera. Arohanui from me in Aotearoa New Zealand. ❤

To use the gold thread you will need a different needle generally for embroidery thread. The bobbin should be monofilament, clear thread.

What a great project - or maybe two projects! You've already converted me to preferring the softer, flexible, crunchy journal covers. Now you've illustrated a great method of making a flexible, rounded spine. I love that abstract fabric pattern. I'll have to visit my local quilting shop to see whether they have anything comparable. Thanks for being such a thorough teacher.

I literally googled for one and took an Uber to it, intentionally.🤣 Unfortunately, I forgot to get the textile glue and they didn't have some of the goodies you find. But still... I enjoyed being there and finding some low cost goodies. (I also forgot to get newspapers in both Amsterdam and Paris and keep kicking myself.) And, yes, I talk to my projects all the time. When you want to thread a sewing machine needle with a three stranded thread use gluestick on the ends and thread your needle once dry. Or, as you already had gold thread on your bobbin, turn the project over and sew gold bobbin thread side up.

I find glueing easier, but if your sewing machine can handle the bulk, sewing would be great!
